"Wait until you get back and we'll continue. I've bought some more goodies that you're sure to love."
Zoran's lips curled up uncontrollably, then he instinctively glanced back at me. I maintained a neutral expression, pretending I hadn't heard anything.
After hanging up the phone, he turned to face me. "There's a sudden emergency at the office. I need to leave for a bit."
"Remember to get some rest. I've hired a caregiver for you. If you need anything, just ask her."
He then grabbed his jacket and hurried out, accidentally bumping into the food on the table, spilling bright red sauce all over the floor.
After Zoran left, I placed the baby in the crib. Once I had lulled her to sleep, I checked an email I had just received on my phone.
It turned out the girl's name was Serenity, an intern at Zoran's company. They had been getting quite close lately. The attached zip file was full of intimate photos of their daily interactions.
Over the past two months, I could clearly sense Zoran's attitude towards me becoming increasingly dismissive, even to the point of barely concealed impatience.
Not long ago, Serenity had come to our house on Zoran's behalf to pick up some documents. At the time, her eyes were full of disdain when she looked at me. I didn't understand it then, but now I finally grasp the meaning behind that look.
It was a statement of self-confidence and a challenge to me.
When I saw the last line in the email, my gaze darkened, and I immediately dialed a phone number.
But after waiting for a long time, one call after another that I made went unanswered.
Until finally, the phone was turned off.
The next time I saw Zoran was when he came to pick up me and the baby from the hospital.
I don't know if it was influenced by my mood, but whenever Zoran approached the baby, she would burst into loud cries. As a result, Zoran hasn't been able to properly hold her even now.
Sometimes he would even jokingly curse her as an ungrateful brat in front of me.
As we got into the car, I thought about what I had seen last time. After all, Zoran and I were husband and wife, so I decided to speak up after some consideration.
"Serenity was deliberately sent by a rival company. You shouldn't get too close to her."
Hearing this, Zoran's grip on the steering wheel faltered, causing the car to swerve momentarily. I quickly grabbed the passenger handle to avoid hitting the window.
"What are you talking about?"
"Zoran, things have come to this point, stop pretending. I know everything about you and her."
"You investigated me?"
Zoran's voice instantly rose, barely concealing his anger.
I let out a bitter laugh. They've been so blatant with their actions, it would be hard for me not to know.
"I personally recruited Serenity into the company. I know better than anyone what kind of person she is. Stop making such baseless accusations."
"Besides, nothing has happened between us. Don't listen to outsiders' gossip."
