Chapter 3

After Zoran's true colors were revealed, he no longer bothered to pretend. His words were filled with protection for Serenity and reproach for me.

The baby, startled by the recent commotion, began to wail in my arms, her cries shrill and piercing.

As if on cue, Serenity chose that moment to call.

"Zoran, it's so noisy over there! I can barely hear what you're saying!"

I tried to soothe the baby, but to no avail.

Zoran turned to me, his eyes blazing, and bellowed:

"Enough! Can't you make her stop crying?! It's driving me crazy!"

"If she doesn't stop, cover her mouth! Crying, crying, crying - that's all she ever does!"

"Both of you, get out of the car."

He pulled over to the side of the road, kicked me and the baby out, then sped off, sweetly calling Serenity "baby" as he went.

The exhaust fumes mixed with dust choked me, causing tears to stream down my face and a salty, bitter taste in my mouth.

I'd only been standing there for a moment when the discomfort from my recent delivery overwhelmed me. To make matters worse, I'd left my phone in the car.

Thankfully, we weren't too far from home. After composing myself, I began the slow, painful journey home, one step at a time, with the baby in my arms.

This house, I can't stand to stay here for even a second longer. Right now, all I want is to take my belongings and my child back to my clan.

Before I married out, the elders of the clan held my hand and earnestly advised me: "Melody, a man's heart is fickle. When you marry outside, if something happens, we won't be able to help you in time."

But at that time, I was already blinded by momentary love. I laughed and said that Zoran would definitely treat me well for a lifetime.

After all, when he proposed to me, his eyes were so sincere and full of love.

I finally managed to stumble to the doorway, and I heard bursts of laughter coming from inside the room.

"Do you think Melody might have postpartum depression? Why is she always overthinking things?"

"The only thing I want to steal, of course, is your heart, Zoran."

"How could a little dummy like me possibly understand the intricacies of the business world?"

Through the crack in the door, I saw Serenity sitting in Zoran's lap, her hand constantly exploring his chest, only to be grabbed by him and raised to his lips for a kiss.

"What do you say, should we send Melody to a mental hospital? It would be good to treat her constant overthinking, and it would give us two more time alone together."

Zoran was already thoroughly bewitched by her flirtation, and at this moment, he nodded without a second thought.

Hearing this, I couldn't think of anything else and immediately turned to run, clutching the child.

The two people inside the house heard the commotion and instantly chased after us.

Soon after, I was restrained by two burly men, each grabbing one of my arms.

"Zoran, I'm not sick! Please don't send me to a psychiatric hospital!"
