Chapter 4

I writhed and struggled desperately, trying to awaken even a shred of conscience in him.

"Melody, don't worry. I'll arrange the best doctors to treat you," he said coldly, holding Serenity as he stood there watching me.

Then he waved his hand: "Take her away!"

I was dragged and shoved into the car, with the child thrown in after me.

The car door slammed shut. Just before we left, I heard Serenity's startled exclamation behind us.

"Zoran, why are you suddenly getting a nosebleed?"

"It's nothing, I'm probably just a bit overheated lately. Let's go back inside and continue."

"Oh, you're so naughty..."

Trapped in the car, watching the scenery retreat outside the window, my last shred of feeling for Zoran vanished in that moment.

The curse wasn't without remedy once it took effect. If the cursed person could have a change of heart within seven days, there was still a glimmer of hope for survival.

But I never imagined he'd become so blinded by lust to this extent. Even without Serenity, someone else would have entered his heart.

Now I just want to see Zoran's final, miserable state.

I thought I'd be staying in the hospital until I heard the news of Zoran's death, but unexpectedly, Zoran appeared at my bedside the very next day.

"Melody." Zoran knelt by the bed, holding my hand, completely different from his cold demeanor yesterday.

I quickly pulled my hand away, instinctively searching for the child sleeping beside me.

But as I looked, cold sweat instantly broke out on my skin.

"Where's the baby? What have you done with our child?"

The bed was still warm, indicating the baby had been taken away not long ago.

I hurriedly got up to leave the room, but Zoran grabbed my arm.

"Melody, last night Serenity suddenly had unbearable headaches. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong."

"We consulted a psychic. They said she's been cursed. Just one drop of the baby's vital blood, and she'll be cured if she drinks it."

My whole body trembled. "What are you saying? You want our baby's vital blood?"

"Have you lost your mind, Zoran!"

"That's your child too. Half of her blood is yours. How could you..."

Furious, I slapped Zoran hard across the face, with such force that my arm went numb and sore.

"It's just one drop of blood! It won't kill anyone. What are you yelling about!"

"I had hoped to discuss this with you civilly, but now I see there's no need for that."

Zoran's anger and embarrassment flared, his attitude reverting to its previous nastiness: "Besides, aren't you always saying you're from the Miao region? For all we know, you might be behind Serenity's headaches!"

"Using your child's blood for treatment would be perfect then!"

I didn't want to argue with him anymore. I just wanted to rescue my child. I turned to open the door.

But after twisting the knob for a while, the door wouldn't budge an inch.
