Chapter 7

Hearing her gentle voice, I pretended not to hear and retreated to the guest bedroom to rest.

I had barely lain down when the mattress beside me dipped, and Vivienne carefully snuggled close.

"Why are you resting as soon as you got back? Are you feeling unwell? Should I take you to the hospital for a check-up?"

I didn't respond to her words, but she continued chattering incessantly.

"Archer, I've been busy all day cooking many of your favorite dishes. It's such a rare opportunity; let's get up and eat something together."

"Look, I even burned myself a few times. For the sake of my injuries, won't you humor me? You didn't use to be like this."

I irritably moved away from her touch, distancing myself. "I'm not hungry. I want to sleep."

Hearing my response, she quickly snuggled closer again.

"I'll sleep with you. Let's eat together before bed."

I impatiently moved away once more, until I had nowhere left to retreat.
