IN A MORNING

XAVIER'S POINT OF VIEW:

The soft golden rays of dawn filtered through the heavy curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room. The air was still, peaceful, filled only with the steady rhythm of Wanessa's breathing as she lay curled against my chest.

For a long moment, I didn't move. I just watched her, memorizing every detail the way her hair tumbled across the pillows, the soft rise and fall of her breathing, the way her fingers still clung to me even in sleep. It was completed. A slow realization crept over me as I watched her, I had never felt more whole than I did at this moment.

The thought sent a quiet sort of panic through me.
