The moonlight bathed the mansion in its silvery glow as Kikidori and Ere'ana sat together in their lavish living room. Ere'ana was curled up on one end of the couch, her legs tucked beneath her, while Kikidori stretched out lazily on the other end. Whiskers, ever the attention-seeker, was perched on the armrest between them, watching them with unblinking eyes.
The night had been quiet so far, a rare moment of calm in their otherwise chaotic lives. Kikidori was flipping a coin absentmindedly, the metallic sound filling the air as it landed in his palm each time. Ere'ana, on the other hand, was deep in thought, her gaze distant as she leaned her chin on her hand.
Without warning, she broke the silence. "Would you love me if I was a—"
"Yes." Kikidori cut her off before she could even finish.
Ere'ana raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a sly smile. "You don't even know what I was going to say."
Kikidori smirked, flipping the coin once more. "Doesn't matter. I already know where this is going."
"Oh, do you now?" Ere'ana challenged, her tone playful.
He tossed the coin one last time and caught it, leaning back against the couch as he looked at her. "Yes, I would love you if you were a fish, a worm, a bird, a snake, a cat, a dog, a waffle, a pancake, a dinosaur, or even if you were stupid."
Ere'ana blinked, momentarily stunned into silence. Then she let out a laugh, shaking her head. "Wow," she said, her voice laced with amusement. "You've really got that memorized, huh?"
Kikidori shrugged, a smug grin on his face. "You've said it enough times. I'd have to be an idiot not to remember."
Ere'ana tilted her head, studying him with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "What if I actually was one of those things?"
Kikidori met her gaze without hesitation. "Then I'd still love you. Even if you were the dumbest fish in the ocean or the weirdest pancake on a plate."
Her laughter filled the room, light and musical, and Kikidori found himself smiling despite himself.
After a moment, he decided to turn the tables. "Hey, if I was a demon, I would—"
Ere'ana didn't even let him finish. "You would probably be the Prince of Hell," she said, her voice teasing but confident. "And you'd be invited by a cute little angel to go to Heaven almost every day, even though you don't want to. You'd probably get annoyed when she sings, but you'd still sing with her anyway."
Kikidori stared at her, his brow furrowed in confusion. "What?"
Ere'ana smirked, clearly enjoying his bewilderment. "Nothing. Just a thought."
"That was oddly specific," Kikidori said, his tone suspicious.
She leaned back against the couch, a secretive smile playing on her lips. "Was it?"
Kikidori narrowed his eyes at her, trying to figure out if she was messing with him or if there was some deeper meaning behind her words. Ultimately, he decided it wasn't worth the effort.
"You're weird, you know that?" he said, shaking his head.
Ere'ana chuckled softly, reaching out to scratch Whiskers behind the ears. "And yet, you'd still love me if I was a fish."
"Damn right," Kikidori replied, his voice filled with mock seriousness.
The two of them settled back into a comfortable silence, their playful banter giving way to a quiet understanding that spoke volumes about their bond.
As the night stretched on, Kikidori couldn't help but glance at Ere'ana, her features softened by the dim light. She caught him staring and raised an eyebrow.
"What?" she asked, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"Nothing," he said quickly, looking away. "Just... thinking."
"About what?"
Kikidori hesitated for a moment before replying, "How lucky I am to have someone who'd still love me if I was the Prince of Hell."
Ere'ana laughed, the sound warm and genuine. "And don't you forget it."
They stayed like that for a while longer, the room filled with the gentle sounds of Whiskers purring and the occasional soft laugh. For all their quirks and chaos, they both knew they had something special—something unshakable.
