Chapter 3 – The Consequences of Survival

1. A New Day at the Camp

Dim sunlight pierced through the gray smoke rising from the ruins, illuminating a devastated city still crawling with the undead. Zayn stood on the rooftop of a half-collapsed building, silently observing the streets below. His gaze was cold, reflecting a mind that never stopped assessing potential threats.

Below him, the survivors struggled to rebuild something resembling a life. The voices of children were rare, and fear was the language they all shared. Amidst this scene, Eliana stood behind him, hesitant to speak.

Eliana (softly): "You didn't sleep last night, did you?"

Zayn didn't respond. He simply continued scanning the horizon.

Eliana: "Zayn... how long do you plan on carrying all this alone?"

This time, he turned slightly toward her, his deep blue eyes flickering faintly.

Zayn: "Until the world becomes a place worth living in again."

2. Testing His New Power

Later, Zayn headed to a makeshift training area behind a ruined building. He needed to understand the limits of his new ability—being able to develop both systems at the same time, but at half the cost.

Zayn (thinking): "If I can balance both systems without exhausting myself too quickly, I'll be able to face even greater threats."

He began combining techniques from both systems in a fight against modified wooden dummies, designed to mimic the speed and strength of evolved zombies.

Meanwhile, Eliana watched from a distance, feeling a mix of concern and admiration.

Eliana (thinking): "The stronger he gets, the more distant he seems… Will he still be the Zayn I know?"

3. New Survivors

During his routine patrol, Zayn heard a scream coming from an abandoned store. As he approached, he saw a small group of survivors trapped by a massive zombie—unlike any he had seen before.

Inside the store, a sharp-eyed young man with brown hair, named Kris, stood protectively in front of a timid girl named Mira, though his hands trembled.

Kris (shaky voice): "Stay behind me, Mira… We'll find a way out."

But Zayn knew that wouldn't happen unless he intervened.

4. Battle Against an Evolved Zombie

Zayn charged into battle, but he quickly realized this zombie was different. Its body regenerated at an alarming speed, making his attacks ineffective.

Zayn (thinking): "This isn't normal… How is it healing so fast?"

The monster attacked ferociously, forcing Zayn to retreat momentarily. Eliana, who arrived moments later, noticed something.

Eliana: "Zayn! Its head… That's its weak point!"

There was no time to hesitate. Zayn poured all his strength into a focused strike directly at the skull, shattering it completely.

Kris (shocked): "Impossible… How did you do that?!"

Zayn (coldly): "Either you learn to fight… or you die."

5. Tension in the Camp

When they returned to the camp, not everyone was happy about the arrival of new survivors. Some feared they would be a burden, while others didn't trust Kris, who seemed arrogant despite his weakness.

A survivor: "Zayn, we barely have enough food for ourselves… We can't keep bringing in more people!"

Zayn (coldly): "If you can't accept that, then you're free to leave and survive on your own."

Silence filled the air. No one dared to challenge him.

6. A Warning in the Darkness

That night, as Zayn patrolled the camp's perimeter, he felt something… or someone watching him.

When he turned around, there was no one there, but the air was charged with an eerie presence.

Zayn (thinking): "That wasn't a zombie… Then what is lurking in the shadows?"
