Chapter 7 - What!? I Was Sleeping For Seven Days Straight?

After reaching the bathroom, Lin Shen moved toward the bathtub, determined to wash away the stinky residue clinging to his body. It took him more than half an hour to scrub himself thoroughly clean, ensuring that every trace of the grimy black liquid was gone.

Now he stood in front of the bathroom mirror, admiring his new body for the first time.Gazing into the bathroom mirror, Lin Shen admires his reflection. At 6 feet tall, his lean, athletic build exudes a subtly masculine strength. His black hair falls neatly to his eyebrows, perfectly framing his intense red ember eyes. His white skin is soft and smooth, as delicate as that of a newborn, a testament to his rigorous cultivation.

Lin Shen smiled at his reflection and mused, "Who knew that all that torment could polish me to newborn-soft perfection while still carving out an athlete's form—it's almost as if even suffering has its silver linings."

After changing into a new night suit, Lin Shen returned to his room. He tossed out the filthy bedsheets—beyond cleaning—and replaced them with fresh ones. Finally, amidst the day's chaos, he crawled into bed to catch up on the sleep he hadn't enjoyed for the last 3000 years!

---

"Mhm! Good morning!" Lin Shen blurted out of habit as he woke up, stretching lazily—only to freeze when he sensed someone beside him.

Feeling fully refreshed and energetic, he quickly realized that this wasn't the same room he had fallen asleep in last night. Instead of his bedroom, he found himself lying in what looked like a hospital bed, surrounded by sleek, futuristic medical equipment.

Where the hell am I? !

"Oh! So you're awake," a gentle voice interrupted his thoughts.

Turning his head, Lin Shen saw a woman in her 30s standing nearby, dressed in a nurse's uniform. She looked at him with a calm smile.

Damn. I really am in a hospital.

Before he could ask anything, the nurse continued, "Since you're awake, I should inform the doctor and your family. They've been very worried about you these past few days."

She turned around to leave, but Lin Shen quickly sat up. "Wait! What is happening? How did I even get here?"

The nurse stopped at the doorway and looked back. "Oh, right. You've been unconscious for seven days."

Lin Shen blinked. "Wait, what?"

"You overexerted yourself and collapsed from exhaustion," she explained. "Your body needed rest, so you ended up sleeping for a whole week."

Lin Shen sat there in stunned silence for a moment.

Seven Days?!

Before he could process that, the nurse left to inform the doctor and his family about him waking up.

Still dazed, Lin Shen muttered, "Hey, system… You there?"

[Yes, Host.] The system answered.

"What the hell is going on? Was what she said true?" Lin Shen asked.

[Yes, Host.]

"But why? How did I pass out for *seven* days?"

[It was due to your mental exhaustion, Host. As you should be aware, you had not truly rested for the past 3,000 years. So, this outcome was predictable. In fact, it was the best-case scenario.]

Lin Shen frowned. "Best-case scenario? What do you mean? Were there worse possibilities?"

[In the worst-case scenario, you would have fallen into a deep slumber and never woken up again.]

Lin Shen's expression stiffened. He took a deep breath and leaned back against the pillows.

"So you're telling me that if I hadn't collapsed, I could've ended up in a permanent coma?"

[Yes, Host.]

Lin Shen rubbed his temples. "Great… So basically, I almost slept forever because I didn't sleep enough. That makes perfect sense."

He sighed. "Well, I guess I should be grateful my body forced me to rest instead of just shutting down completely. But man, seven days... My family must've been losing their minds."

Just as he was about to ask the system more, the door opened, and in walked the doctor, followed closely by his parents. His mother rushed to his side, her eyes filled with worry and relief.

"Shen'er! You're finally awake!"

Yan Yue rushed to Lin Shen and pulled him into a fierce embrace. Behind her, his father, Lin Wan, stood a few steps back with Lin Shen's younger sister, Lin Mei, her tiny hand clutching their father's sleeve.

"Lad, do you have any idea how worried your mother was?" Lin Wan said, his gaze shifting to Yan Yue — Lin Shen's mother — whose tears trembled on the edge of spilling over.

Lin Shen froze. This was his first encounter with this family since transmigrating 3,000 years into the future, and words lodged themselves in his throat. It wasn't detachment that silenced him. No—it was the raw, overwhelming emotion radiating from Yan Yue's embrace. The sensation was achingly familiar. He'd felt it lifetimes ago, in his childhood, when scraped knees and playground bruises had summoned his own mother's tears. That same sorrow, that desperate warmth, that *fear* of loss.

3000 years. Yet the memory crashed over him with brutal clarity: his first mother's face, streaked with tears as she bandaged his wounds. Guilt clawed at him now. He wanted to scream, to crumple into Yan Yue's arms and beg forgiveness for making this new mother—this stranger with his predecessor's face—carry such pain. But he clenched his jaw, swallowing the storm inside.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, the only words he could force out and what could he even say.

Yan Yue tightened her grip, her voice trembling. "Promise me you won't push yourself like that again. Promise."

"Hmm"Lin Shen nodded silently. What else could he do? There were no answers, no lies convincing enough to soothe her.
