Shattered

Kate

I only left for a quick bathroom break to come back to the party and be told that Xavier left with his fiancée.

Gosh, I'm so stupid! How could I fall for someone who already belongs to another? Talk of unrequited love.

To make matters worse, I saw George coming back to the party without Xavier. Can this night get any worse for me?

Even though my mind knows all this, my heart's still yearning for him.

"I can't lose hope. I mean, it's not like they're already married. Yes, I can still make him fall in love with me."

"Hey, you okay?"

Sean pats my shoulder, bringing me out of my quiet monologue. I hope he didn't catch that.

"Yeah, I'm good."

"Okay. Well, a few of us are heading back home. Do you want a ride?"

"Why do you ask?"

Sean chuckles. "Coz you don't seem to have a ride back? I mean, Xavier's not here to get you back home."

He's right. "Yeah." I sigh.

"Come on, let's get you home."

The drive back home isn't fun at all. Nothing's spiking my interest anymore. Ever since I heard that the guy I like already has a fiancée, I've been sad.

"From one friend to another, you two would have made such a great couple." Sean winks at me as he drives off.

That uplifts my mood a bit.

Coz why should I wallow in some pathetic self-pity and sadness when I can still do something about this? I can still make him fall in love with me, I have all the time in the world!

Riley's freaking gorgeous and all, but I know Xavier much better than her. I still stand a chance in this.

With my knowledge, I can confidently say that it's their parents' wish, and not theirs, that Xavier and Riley get married one day. Conglomerate families are well-known for doing that.

This means that I just have to find a way to place myself in Xavier's heart so that he ends up breaking off their engagement.

I can do this!
