What?

Kaia

"Girl, what was that?"

"Huh?"

"Don't act coy with us. Y'know back in class before Mr. Hingman's session?"

Gina reminds me.

"Oh, that. What about it?"

I have a bite of my sandwich.

"We're you jealous? Be honest."

Hazel said.

"What?" I look at the two, perplexed. "Of course, not."

They give me the 'we know you're lying' look.

"Guys."

They don't budge.

"Fine. I was irked with how much attention the new kid was getting."

"Nadia."

"What?"

"Her name. She's not just the new kid."

Gina says, with her eyebrow raised at me.

"Ugh, whatever."

Hazel chuckles as she goes back to her lunch plate, and so does Gina.

"Do you think we should invite her to sit with us?"

"What?"

"Come on, Kaia. She looks lost, and she needs all the help she can get on her first day."

"I'm sure she's fine."

"I insist."

Hazel persists.

She tried calling the new kid over to our table, much to my dismay. Fortunately for me, the new kid was already making her way to another table.

"Too bad."

"I wouldn't say so."

Hazel says, looking over my shoulder, worried.

What's got her that worried?

I look over my shoulder to see the new kid sitting with Blake?!

Just what the heck is going on?

To make matters worse, Blake and his friends seem to have the time of their lives with her around. I don't like this one bit.
