Doomed

Miles

"You okay?"

I looked up from my sleeping position to see Nadia standing by my desk.

I stared at her in confusion as she sat on my front deskmate's chair.

"You haven't been yourself today. You were awfully very quiet at lunch."

I chuckled.

"Aren't I always quiet?"

"You are, but today's just different. I can feel it."

"I'm fine."

"That's a lie. I'm guessing you're having girlfriend trouble."

"Yeah, right."

"Or is it ex-girlfriend trouble?"

I just shrugged.

"You're annoying."

"I know."

"Whatever."

I rolled my eyes.

The bell chimed, signalling the end of lunch break.

"We aren't done with this conversation."

She said, going to her desk.

Throughout the lesson, I couldn't concentrate. My mind kept going back to what Kaia said last night. 'He's so much younger than you!'.

Ruby and I have been dating for three months now. I never once considered our age difference an issue until now. I keep getting this nagging feeling that Kaia may be right. Is the 3 years age gap between us really an issue?

"Babe?"

Huh?

"You okay?"

She asked.

"Uh, yeah. I'm okay. What were you saying?"

"Never mind that. What's on your mind?"

I sighed, my eyes taking in the view of the beach from the balcony where we stood. Whenever we want some alone time, we come to this hotel room. It's our private spot.

"I can't help but think about our age difference."

"What about it?"

"Does it bother you?"

"Of course, not."

I exhaled, relieved.

"I guess Kaia pointing it out loud last night made me worry a bit."

She wrapped her arms around my waist, bringing me closer to her.

"What matters is we love each other. That's never gonna change."

"Yeah."

Our moment was cut short when my phone rang. It was Father.

"Hello?"

I scrowled, trying to understand what he was saying. He then hung up after yelling at me.

"What's wrong?"

I opened the tabloids that were trending with hot news online. We both froze in place, not believing it.

Someone secretly took photos and videos of us entering this hotel together and posted them online. We were doomed.
