I wanted to avoid him, but intoxicated as I was, I could barely stand. I accidentally bumped into someone behind me.
"Callie?"
It was Uncle Shaw of all people.
"Have you been drinking? This is ridiculous! How could you drink? Come on, let's go home!"
Uncle Shaw looked furious. He tried to grab me to leave immediately.
But I really didn't want to appear so disheveled in front of an elder, and I also wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to Nash for what happened years ago.
So I refused Uncle Shaw, explaining it was a company gathering and I'd only had some fruit wine, nothing to worry about.
"Callie, I'm going to have Jasper come pick you up in a bit."
Uncle Shaw relented, but his words made my intended apology even more difficult.
"Well, well, Callie. I was wondering who it was, turns out it's Jasper's old man. What's this? After all these years, you're still not tired of this guy? Or maybe... you've sampled many men and found Jasper still suits your taste best?"
