Yushiro's eyes gleamed with a terrifying light, not the sharp, predatory glint Kenji's eyes often held, but something far more unsettling—sadistic and cold. I wanted to stop him, but the sheer weight of his killing intent froze me in place.

As Yushiro disappeared into the forest to hunt down the Black Backs, Kenji climbed out of the pond, grumbling as he returned to gathering herbs. I almost felt sorry for the beasts, but there was nothing I could do now.

Minutes later, the forest echoed with agonized death cries that sent shivers down my spine. Soon after, Yushiro emerged, effortlessly carrying a gorilla's corpse over his shoulder. Blood dripped steadily from his katana, the crimson droplets staining the forest floor. His expression was one of annoyance, eyes dark with dissatisfaction.

Even now, I couldn't sense his presence. It felt like the perfect time to poke fun at him.

"What's wrong, Snowball? Did the gorillas outrun you?" I teased, smirking.

"Don't be ridiculous, Blondie," Yushiro retorted with exaggerated flair. "This old man never lets his prey escape. But really, my dear Blondie…" He leaned in with a mocking grin. "The future strongest swordsman... beaten by a baboon with one hit?"

With a swift flick of his katana, blood splattered across the grass before he sheathed it with practiced ease.

I scowled, embarrassed by my earlier defeat and even more annoyed because he was right.

Yushiro's grin grew wider, arrogance returning like a switch flipped back on.

"Hey, Yushiro," Kenji called, taking a break from herb collecting. "Were those baboon bastards strong?"

"Yeah," Yushiro replied, dropping the corpse with a heavy thud.

"Stronger than Piggy?" Kenji asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Yeah."

Kenji's scowl deepened as he glared at Yushiro, probably regretting letting him go after them alone.

Yushiro's voice softened slightly as he explained, "They were strong because they worked together. In their nest, they had long-range attackers, close-combat fighters, and even those specialized in distractions."

He let out a frustrated sigh. "The only satisfying thing was that they fought with real intent to kill and even used hashi. If I had gone any deeper into their territory, I would've faced a fifth-tier beast—the Black Back King. So, I got my revenge and came back."

His words hung in the air.
