Chapter 47: Shadow's Deadly Strike
In the midst of the battle, the Mist ninja suffered only four Chunin casualties, with one Jonin injured.
The remaining two Mist Jonin, three Mist Chunin, and three Mist Genin surrounded Kakashi and his team, watching them like a cat playing with a mouse. They waited for Kakashi and his team to collapse on their own, minimizing the Mist ninja's casualties and losses.
Clearly, Kakashi's earlier feat of instantly taking down four Mist Chunin had made these ambushing Mist ninja more cautious.
However, from a distance, when Koshino observed the four Mist Chunin lying in pools of blood, all killed by Kakashi, he grew increasingly puzzled.
Especially when he looked at Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Lighningdō, noticing they were all severely injured but bore no obvious battle scars. Koshino couldn't help but wonder:
"What exactly happened?"
"Guy, Genma, and Lighningdō seem like they didn't participate in the fight. How did they end up so injured?"
"Could it be that the Mist ninja had another ambush plan, targeting Guy first to incapacitate him?"
"Is it possible... that Guy was the Mist ninja's breakthrough point?"
Recalling the scenes before he left, Koshino couldn't help but smile wryly, thinking that Guy might indeed have been the Mist ninja's target.
After all, before Koshino left, Guy had become a ticking time bomb due to his differing philosophy from Anbu, constantly threatening the safety of Koshino's Anbu team.
Yet, at that time, no one knew that the bandits they were preparing to deal with were actually Mist ninja infiltrating the Land of Fire. So, even when Koshino left and Guy threw another tantrum, neither Lighningdō nor Genma Shiranui paid much attention, especially since Kakashi didn't seem inclined to console Guy. Lighningdō and the others felt no obligation to guide Guy.
In this Anbu team, perhaps only Koshino had warned Guy with his actions before leaving.
Unfortunately, Koshino's approach was a bit too harsh.
Not only did he fail to comfort Guy, but he also made Guy more extreme!
"Refugees? Refugees!"
"So what if they're refugees? Are they not human?"
"Why is it that after leaving the village, not only has Kakashi changed, but even Koshino has changed?"
"I refuse to believe it! Just a few refugees, and they can threaten our lives? Saving a few refugees is wrong?!"
With these extreme thoughts, while Kakashi and the others awaited Koshino's return, Guy acted alone once more.
"Captain, should we stop Guy?"
Seeing Guy suddenly leave the group, the sensory-type ninja Tatami asked Kakashi with a frown.
"No need, a little lesson might do him good."
Replying coldly, Kakashi narrowed his eyes slightly and asked Tatami, "Are you sure there are only four Chunin?"
"Confirmed!"
"Then there's no problem! Hmph, just four Chunin, what kind of storm can they stir up?"
In the Anbu squad that Koshino was part of, Tatami was the sensory-type ninja, essentially serving as the eyes of Koshino's Anbu team.
So, after receiving a positive confirmation from Tatami, Kakashi didn't think much of it and just waited for the "refugees" that Guy encountered to take the bait!
Without a doubt, the "refugees" that Guy saved once again were actually disguised Mist ninjas.
Under normal circumstances, it should have been very easy for Guy to discover that those refugees were disguised Mist ninjas. After all, in Koshino's interactions with Guy, Koshino knew that although Guy seemed a bit goofy, he was actually a very meticulous and cautious person. Otherwise, how could Guy have become a famous Jonin in the original storyline of Konoha Village?
Unfortunately, under the influence of extreme emotions, Guy's rationality gradually faded.
Almost as soon as he brought those refugees back, casting a disdainful glance at Kakashi and the others, Guy was about to demonstrate with his actions that rescuing refugees could also complete the mission when suddenly, with a "poof," those "refugees" suddenly transformed into Mist ninjas, leaving Guy stunned on the spot!
Of course!
Guy wasn't the only one frozen in place; Kakashi, Tatami, and the others were all equally shocked! Because at the moment the Mist ninjas revealed themselves, Kakashi realized that Tatami's information was incorrect! However, Kakashi could understand Tatami's mistake because it wasn't Tatami's fault; there was also a sensory-type ninja among the Mist ninjas!
Moreover, the Mist's sensory-type ninja was a Jonin!
Immediately, relying on the sensory blocking of the Mist's sensory-type Jonin, Kakashi and the others found themselves in a tough battle.
Especially after the two Mist Jonin disguised as refugees appeared, Guy, along with Lighningdo and Genma Shiranui, didn't even have time to defend and were severely injured in an instant. Among them, Guy was the most seriously injured, as he had been closest to the refugees before and suffered the worst injuries in the end!
Ultimately, only Kakashi in the entire Anbu squad managed to turn the tide, not only instantly killing four Mist Chunin but also injuring the Mist's sensory-type Jonin, barely stabilizing the situation.
However, stabilizing the situation was the best Kakashi could hope for.
Now, looking at the Mist ninja lineup surrounding them, even Kakashi felt a chill in his heart, and beside him, Guy, seeing this, was filled with regret in his eyes and lowered his head, remorsefully saying, "Kakashi, it's all my fault. If it weren't for me..."
"Shut up!"
Before Guy could finish, Kakashi shouted, "If you have the energy to talk, you'd better think about how to escape, you idiot!"
"Hahaha, you still think you can escape?"
As soon as Kakashi's voice fell, Guy instantly shut his mouth, only to be met with the mockery of a Mist Jonin!
"Do you really think you can escape?"
"Or is your hope that little kid who just left?"
"To be blunt, the situation that kid is facing is much more dangerous than yours!"
"A Chunin and three Genin, facing them alone? Do you think he still has a chance to survive? You might as well wait to ask in hell!"
"Hahaha!"
With that, the Mist Jonin burst into another fit of laughter.
The sound of that laughter made Guy regret his mistake even more and sank Kakashi's heart to the bottom.
But just as Kakashi let out a deep sigh, tightly gripping the kunai in his hand, thinking that he would kill as many Mist ninjas as he could, and that he would never abandon his comrades in battle, suddenly, with a "whoosh" sound!
In Kakashi's somewhat despairing gaze, a sudden flash of a dark shadow made Kakashi's eyes light up with a renewed hope for survival!
"Koshino!"
