Planning Ahead

I open the paper meal box I bought from the convenience store. Filled with egg and bacon with a little bit of rice. Though I could bring my own food but I just don't. It once spilled inside my backpack causing my notes to be drenched and unusable.

Eating behind the building where people don't come is kind of nice. Away from random students invitation and Mark's loud friends. I don't hate it I just don't like it.

I wonder why they made this cement table and chairs behind the building...maybe they understood there are people who prefer to be alone? Salut to them.

"That looks delicious."

!?

Looking at my right, she sat on one of the cement chairs with her hands clasped together and chin resting on top of the clasped hands. She grins.

I didn't notice her beforehand...how is she able to sneak up silently without me noticing... I'm sure I could have heard her approaching with the dead leaves snapping on the ground.

"Want some...?" I offer to her, she shook her head.

"I'm not hungry."

"Okay..."

...

...

...

It's hard to eat when she's staring at me too much...my food is still half but this feels to awkward with a grinning girl watching me eat.

"Lan by the way, do you know the event coming?"

"What event?" I sigh in relief. She finally talked.

"The Valentine's even for this school."

... seriously? That event has nothing to do with me. What I can only do is watch people perform or do things related to valentines.

"What are you planning for that day?" I munch on my bacon. "You have a date with someone?"

"Not at all." She smiles... Awkwardly? "In fact, it's something like sending out letters to anyone."

Good grief. I actually assumed she's not the type to date at this age. But her plan on sending letters...maybe like those letters to give to your crush?

"So I will be needing your help since you're the only one that I can ask for." She gives me a smile of waiting for an approval with her hands still clasped together.

"I see...what can I do then?"

"Let's talk about it after school, it seems like I need to go back now." She stood up from the cement chair. "See yah!"

She walk away, passing by the building side, now she disappeared from my sight. She only interacts with me for a short time, especially when there's someone else. Or if she doesn't walk away, she remain quiet as long as there are people other than us alone.

I should finish this food soon or I'm going to be late too.

...

"Uhm excuse me?"

...? Who is it this time.

I turn my head over my shoulders and see someone approaching from behind. I wait for them until they stood beside the cement table.

A boy who has a uniform of a junior with a short hair. His lips lowered on the corners, his eyes downcast. He took hold of his left hand by his right hand.

"Who are you?" I ask.

"..."

"Are you just gonna stay quiet...?"

"That doesn't matter...but...who are you talking to just now?"

"I was just talking to my friend." I fold the paper meal box and put it inside a plastic before throwing it away. "Why do you ask?"

"Perhaps you are this person I'm told to send this...?" He slides out a paper envelope form his pocket and hands it to me, I accept.

"What is this?"

"I'm told by some seniors that cannot be named to send this to you without explanation why."

"I see..." Opening the paper, inside is a letter and a key. "What is thi- oh right you aren't told why...thank you I guess?"

"Mhm..."

The junior walk away. I took the letter from the envelope and read it's contents.

...

"What....?"

[~~~]

The classroom gets filled with chattering as the teacher walk out from the classroom. Looking outside, there are some students sweeping off the dead leaves from the road.

I still can't forget what that letter just said about me. What's more shocking is that I should be the only one to do what the letter told me.

"You're the famous Lance right? Well since you stand out yet have no connection with others, I assign you to investigate about this matter, since you're fit for it. The key will help you, don't lose it.

Remember, you should be the only one to do this. "

" You figure it out: 51"

The letter isn't being specific with what to do...what does it mean figure it out? The only hint I have is the number fifty-one and the unlabeled key.

What also bothers me is that it knows I have no connection with others, except for Mark. He's just my seatmate who ask notes from me since he slacks off most of the time.

"Hey Lance, the teacher is looking this way!" Mark whispers to me and nudges my right arm with his elbow.

"Okay okay..." I turn my attention to the board and the teacher. The teacher continues to explain their lecture.

...my mind is still stuck with the mystery letter...I can't focus with the class with this. The letter...number 51 and I should be the only one investigating it...what does it have to do with me aside from being fit for it? And why am I fit for it?

Guess I have no choice but to plan this out...the clues that I have is number fifty-one and a key. I'll research what I can match for this. But I also have to help her with her valentine's plan. I'm going to be busy not with just academics for now...

I can just decline this letter but I'm too curious that I want to do it...like a treasure game.
