After getting to the car, the driver paused the wheelchair and made to open the door when a girl with average height and small round face rushed over with tears glistening in her eyes and placed her hands on Fu Ling's legs.
"Fu Ling—"
She looked down at his leg and turned her face away as if she were facing something unbearable. Fu Ling didn't understand. Why did every one of these people act like he was permanently crippled? And each one of them was a more terrible actor than the other.
"Fu Ling, I didn't know— I'm so sorry"
Fu Ling looked at her calmly but the wheels in his head were spinning fastly. He patted her hands gently and used that opportunity to remove her hands from his leg by the way then put his hands in his jacket pocket.
"Why are you sorry? This wasn't your fault"
The sense of alienation and slight impatience radiating from him made Wen Ting pause in her act and take a quick glance at him. She had grown up able to read people's emotions easily but he still had a gentle smile and a worried expression on his face so she must have felt it wrong. She sniffled a few times and arranged her words.
"Yu Jiahao told me everything. He said the reason you got into an accident was because of me. He said—he said he would tell the whole school I caused it and ruin my reputation. I don't even know what to do. Alot of people dislike me already, if he does this—"
She managed to say these through choked sobs but after saying this much, Fu Ling didn't reply and when she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, she saw the he seemed to be in thought. She clenched her fists and lowered her head.
Fu Ling looked at her
"You don't have to worry about that. Don't let his words get to you. You had nothing to do with the accident. It was Luo Xing Jie. I don't blame you"
She raised her head sharply and looked straight at him. Fu Ling smiled playfully but changed his face in an instant to look helpless.
"Or do you want to take the blame for him? Do you like him so much? Please be clear with me. I would never pry another man's corner. If you two have already come clean with your feelings, I don't want to seem like a third party. I have always been sincere in my feelings for you" Whether those feelings were love it hate, Fu Ling didn't say. Just left it all to her imagination.
Wen Ting was relieved when she heard this. It turns out this is why she felt his attitude towards her was a bit different from before. She was afraid he had found out about something but thankfully, he's still that stupid love brained fool.
"I have nothing to do with Luo Xing Jie. He has been pestering me non stop and I keep thinking of how to get rid of him but I know that if I offend him, I might not be able to keep staying in this school. I don't know what to do, I feel trapped."
Fu Ling almost couldn't help himself. Didn't she know all this when she was acting like a knight in shining armor? Besides, at this stage they should already be ambiguous in their relationship. Although she hadn't agreed, they had done some things together with her permission so Luo Xing Jie already considered her his person. Fu Ling wondered how he would feel if he heard all this.
He raised his hand and slowly rubbed her hair.
"It'll be fine. I didn't know anything about this, you should have told me. I'm sorry I let you suffer so much"
Wen Ting leaned into his touch and felt it was regrettable he wasn't the first son. He was much more caring than that brute Luo Xing Jie. It's too bad the person she came for was Luo Xing Jie. She couldn't let anything distract her from her goal. What she didn't know was that in a place where she couldn't see, Fu Ling's eyes turned icy cold and he looked at her as though she were a dead thing.
Fu Ling felt that if he didn't end the act here he might just puke out all his internal organs so he gently bade her farewell and watched and she walked and disappeared around the corner.
The driver who had been quiet throughout this exchange helped him into the car wordlessly and drove off.
Fu Ling got into the car and took his phone out of his pocket and paused the recording then saved it. He took out a pack of wet tissues and cleaned his hands thoroughly. He happened to raise his head and met the driver's eyes in the front mirror. The driver immediately averted his eyes and could not help but feel shocked in his heart. The second young masters eyes were just like the old sir. The driver who felt like all his previous cognition of this playful man was overturned could only drive even more carefully.
When they got back to the house, the driver settled him in and ran like his clothes were on fire. Fu Ling couldn't find the reason for the other persons strange attitude so he didn't dwell on it.
Fu Ling freshened up and curled up in bed with his phone. He wanted to say thank you to Gu Lian but a quick search through his contacts made him realize he didn't have Gu Lian's number. He held out some hope and went to WeChat but they weren't friends there either. He decided to ask for it tomorrow at school.
Fu Ling sighed and dropped the phone. The original owner really didn't have any friends. He wasn't even added in the class group chat.
He put on his headphones and listened to recordings of all the classes held while he was asleep. After doing that, he placed the phone phone down and took a few fills for pain relief before sleeping. He didn't understand the sporadic but insistent headaches and just attributed it to side effects of taking over the body.
