After seeing my strength with their own eyes, I instantly being appointed as a leader in this group of fifteen people. They all varied in gender and age. As the oldest is fifty years old while the the youngest is only ten years old.
"For your information, I didn't come from any shelter. So, if you were hoping I could bring you back with me, then you are mistaken."
I can see some of them showed disappointment at my words. However, none of them said anything. The woman earlier speak again.
"It's fine. You're strong. I'm sure you can protect us from the monsters."
"But what's in it for me? What do I get from helping you all?" I look at them coldly. I know they are desperate for protection in this dangerous world but to suddenly treat me like their protector without asking my opinion is too much.
"We can offer you our food." An old man handing out a stale bread to me with a shaking hand. I couldn't help but scoff at this sight.
"Just how much food do you have? What's the point of protecting you from monsters if you're going to die from starvation?"
"We... We don't know what else we could offer. We don't have any other method to protect ourselves from the monsters. To be honest, we have gone to the central shelter but got rejected because we don't have any abilities," a man in his thirties explain to me.
This is why I think the beginning of cataclysm is the hardest moment. The ability users, especially the attack-type, will be treated like God everywhere because they can fight off the monsters. Couple with the appearance of 'shelter', which is a safe place where the monsters won't attack has made it even more difficult for ordinary people to survive.
The shelters are being monopolized by the ability users. In the world where the laws are completely crumbled, the new laws are revolves around these ability users. There is even a new idealism, where they believe they are the chosen one while the people without abilities should be gone from the world.
The nearest shelter in this area have such idealism. That's why the people here are desperate. They need to walk around ten kilometers to reach another shelter. It's impossible to not encounter a strong monster along the way.
"Okay. Let's go to the shelter in the east. I will protect you all from the monsters. None of you will die until we reach there. That's my promise."
Their eyes start to sparkle brightly as they heard my words. Then I smile at them 'amicably'.
"However... Allow me to train you all. You guys need to know how to fight a monster somehow. I can't do all the work, right?" I could see some of their faces has turned pale but I ignore it. In the beginning, I wasn't born with a naturally strong physique, but as I trained, my physical strength far surpass any of the humans.
"I haven't done my hobbies in breaking bon- I mean, training people in a long time. I might get excited." I mutter to myself without knowing those who heard me has already fainted.
. . . . .
I sit down on a huge piece of cement as I watch the team doing all sorts of training I asked them. Some were doing push ups while others were doing squats. They took this training very seriously after I told them that I can't possibly take care of them forever.
To be honest, I wasn't strong because I trained like this. It's actually because I trained my ability. My ability needs a strong physical body in order to use it. As my ability improves, so is my physical strength. Unfortunately, they didn't need to know that.
"Let's stop now. You guys can rest." Most of them collapse on the ground the moment I say that. A few moments later, they sit down in a lotus position like I told them before. I told them to sit in this position to get rid of the pain in their muscle. However, it's actually to disguise the fact that I use my ability on them.
"No matter how many times I do that position, I still can't believe it works," a man, who introduced himself as Wayne, stretch his body.
"My body has been feeling more healthier lately despite not having enough to eat," the old man in his fifties, who I called Grandpa Hans, says as he touches his body in amazement. I ignore their reaction and get up from my seat.
"You guys can set up a camp here while I search for food. Don't go anywhere if you don't want to meet a three-eyed monster," I warn them first before going on my way. We're currently in a housing area so there should be a convenient store around here.
I spot a building with a sign, 'Mini Market' on it so I make my way by jumping and killing all the monsters in the way. Fortunately, the monsters here aren't as strong as the ones when I first came out of the building so it doesn't take much effort for me to wipe them all out.
I take a glance at one particular spot before I paid it no further mind. As I walk to the mini market, I can feel someone sneakily following me from behind. The person is wary, but I don't feel any malicious intent from them. The moment I enter the building, I sigh.
"If you don't show yourself, I might just lock all the doors in the market," I say loud enough for the other party to hear. I turn around and a teenage boy appear while smiling awkwardly.
"I got caught."
My eyes become sharp as I observed him. His awkward smile and timid gesture, it makes me certain that he's one of the characters that I know. In fact, he's one of the attack team members that died while protecting the main character. I can't believe this is what he looks like in his teens.
"I'm not going to bite you or anything so just take whatever you want. I just don't like people sneaking behind my back." Then I turn around to get anything that I need. I take out a plastic bag that I have in my pocket.
"Are you alone? Or do you have your own group?" The boy ask me as he stuff the foods inside his own backpack.
"I have a group waiting for me. We are heading to the shelter in the east," I answer him nonchalantly since it's not a big deal.
"Oh, me too. I heard the leader of that place is good." I nod to his statement. Of course the leader will be good since it's the main character's best friend. That's why I decided to go to that place.
"Are you going there alone?" I ask despite already knowing the answer.
"Well... I came with my friends. We've been surviving together since the world became like this. We're... like a family. It should have been that way," he says the last sentence with a low voice as to not let anyone hear but I have superhuman sense so I heard him clearly.
"Would you like to join my group? We have the same destination so I don't think it will be a problem. You already saw my strength so you can be assured that you will be safe as long as I was around."
"That... will be helpful. I will discuss it with my friends first."
I smile at his answers. I knew he wouldn't turn down my offer. He may look easy, but he's someone who always use his head. He knows I have no reason to harm him so he will use this opportunity to get away from his friends as much as possible.
