Today, I divide the people into three groups, with each group will have five members and a leader. Their mission is to gather foods and other necessities. All this time, it was my job to search for those since I can protect myself from a strong monster.
Aside from training, I also teach them about what to do when they meet monsters based on their grade and characteristics For example, if they meet a Grade 5 poisonous monster or above, they could just burn them using anything that could cause fire.
Of course, it's only possible if the poison covered a large area on the monster's body. That's why I just teach them how to run most of the time. It's still too early to ask them to fight even a Grade 7 monster. Even considering their improvement in physical strength, they would barely be able to defeat a Grade 9 monster.
"Each of you will search the food on the list that I gave you. There's no time limit. You can only come back after you have gathered all the things in the list.
If you come back with anyone in your group missing, you will be given severe punishment. The group that arrived here first, while perfectly complete their mission will be given a reward. Any questions?"
"Do we need to fight a monster as well?" A kid, his name is Dean, ask me with his hand raised.
"No. Don't fight. Just run. If you see a monster, run as fast as you can like I taught you. Your mission is to search for the things in the list but your utmost priority is to not die. This is a survival mission, not a mission where I sent you to your death. Understood?"
However, I am not that worried since I have given each of them a flare signal. They can only use it once when they get seriously hurt. After that, I will send Theo to heal their injury. This is also a training for him since he needs to run in full speed at their location to arrive there as fast as possible or else the person may not survive.
"If any of you are still in my sight after the mission starts, you will be given punishment. The mission starts now." As soon as I say that, they all run like a cockroach in order to avoid me calling out to them.
"Theo, you get ready as well," I turn my face to the guy that has been busy in bandaging his hands. He looks at me in confusion.
"Now? Isn't it too early? There's no way they will get hurt as soon as the mission starts." I almost sigh at his naivety. He will be shocked at how careless, stupid and unreliable a human can be.
Ten minutes later, a red smoke can be seen in the distance. The newly rising smoke tells me it's the flare signal. I open my mouth to wake up the frozen Theo with his jaw drop. My voice is louder than usual.
"What are you doing?! Your comrade is in danger! Help them now!"
"Yes, ma'am!" He begin to run as fast as he could. Just in case, I also follow behind him without being notice. When we arrive, it's actually the Ryan's group that sent the signal.
The person that got hurts is none other than Ryan himself. It seems like a piece of concrete has fallen on top of him. Fortunately, the concrete wasn't that big, only the size of a child's head. But it hit his shoulder and broke his bone.
"Arghhh!!!" He groan in pain as Theo try to touch him.
"I'm sorry. I will start to heal you now," Theo start to use his ability. His body start to sweat as the injury this time is more severe than any other injury he has ever dealt with. It's also the first time he ever tried to fix a broken bones. As I'm considering to help him since he may not know how to relocate the bone, Ryan starts to speak.
"I'm sorry," his voice is low. Theo stay silent as he focus on healing him. "I... Am a bad person, I know. I was the one who forced you to do all the tasks you didn't have to do. I'm just sorry. I don't ask for your forgiveness because what we have done to you was f*cked up. Just want to let you know."
Theo still didn't say anything. He didn't look mad or disappointed or anything. I can't read his emotions right now. That's only natural. I don't know much about him except for what I saw in the novel. I think it's time to get to know this person personally.
"What are you doing? That's not how you treat someone with a broken bone," I approach them like I just arrived and didn't hear their whole conversation. Theo glance up to me and stop using his ability.
"I will hold his hand while you heal him." I use my hand to sense the muscles in his hands and shoulder, ignoring his screaming. Then I place the broken bone in it's place and hold it down. Theo use his ability again and Ryan's complexion get better.
"I won't forgive you," Theo's voice is firm. Even so, he still focus on treating the injury seriously.
"I know," Ryan answer with his lips gone up a little. I bet he finds it quite funny seeing how Theo's action is quite contradictory to his words.
I feel a little bit relief. Even if Theo didn't forgive him but at least he won't go to the point of killing him. After we have done in treating his injury, I quickly leave them to see how the others are doing.
A bit far from the Ryan's group is Carla's group. It seems like they are going in pair to search for the things on the list. That's a good strategy they can watch out for each other. The pair she set up is also compatible. For example, she pair up an inexperience but quick witted Natasha with Grandpa Hans, who has experience in military.
Their group also carefully avoid all the monsters. I didn't even need to teach them how to avoid the monster as they have been doing that since the beginning of the cataclysm.
Clara's ability is telekinesis. She use her ability to pick up a piece of building to block the entrance of the building from the monster. She also clear their path since they are many rocks and dust around. By doing this, they could avoid the things that happened to Ryan.
After I make sure they are doing fine, I go to another group.
Gunther's group is searching individually except for Gunther and Dean. I'm surprised that he's quite sensible to not leave a child on his own. The place they are searching in is a mall. The mall size is not that big so the chance of encountering a monster isn't high.
Gunther's ability is telepathy. That's why this strategy is suitable for them since he could always get informed on what happened to his group. Dean is also with him to flare a signal if anything happens to him.
"They are doing better than I expected. Aside from a small accident with Ryan, nothing else happens," I mutter to myself and decide to go back to our camp.
"Welcome back," Theo greet me. He just finished his canned food lunch.
"Aren't you getting too relax? Your comrades are out there facing danger but you're here eating lunch," I coldly glare at him. He gives me an awkward smile and starts to stand up.
"I will go run for a while," he's ready to run at full speed but I stop him.
"Wait." I hand him a backpack that I have prepared beforehand. The moment he take it, his hands instantly drop.
"Sh*t! What's this?!" He looks at me and the backpack alternately. Then he covers his mouth when he realized he just cursed out loud.
"I fill it up with rocks. It should weight around seven kilograms. Wear it when you run."
"What the f-" he pause when he sees me raise my eyebrows. "I just started training for two days! You can't jus-"
"Don't take it off even when you go to treat your friends," I cut him off. I give him a 'do you have anything else to say?' type of gaze. He shuts his mouth and begin to faithfully follows my order.
I pick up a canned food and open it to eat. A signal is flares at the same time I put the food in my mouth. I swallowed it first before putting the food down and follow Theo to see what happens.
I know I can trust Theo, but since I promised the group to not let anyone die, I naturally need to keep my promise.
