Roman hadn't noticed but he had changed, he had become colder, more callous more ruthless yet at the same time more sadistic, he began to enjoy playing with his prey before killing them. It was unknown when this change had occured to him, before Roman died to the mugger he would never of acted like this, he was a tame person, a sensible one, one with kindness in his heart.
But that Roman was gone, transformed by his experiences and enviroment.
Roman enshrouded himself in darkness and stalked the final goblin he had purposfully let escape. He didn't let the goblin know it was being followed yet it still ran as if death was at its heels, even after peeking multiple times behind itself and making sure the terrifying purple skeleton was nowhere in sight.
'What a cautious goblin.'
The goblin continued to run for nearly ten minutes until it spotted a wooden wall in the far distance. Its expression brightened up in elation and its wanning stamina burned anew as the goblin bolted to close the distance between itself and the village, it could almost taste the security and safety that the village would give it.
Yet it would never taste it as Roman silently left the darkness that was concealing him and efficently ripped the goblin's head off in one move with his bare hands.
{You have slain a level 4 Goblin}
{You have gained experience}
The mechanical hum of the system ringing in Roman's mind further confirming his kill.
'Let me scout the village before I do anything precarious.'
Roman closed the distance between himself and the wooden walls, they were about 4 metres tall and were very thick, it seemed that the goblins had put a lot of effort into fortifying the walls. He stealthily checked the perimeter of the village and saw that the wooden walls had two gates at the back and the front to let the goblins enter and exit.
After some further inspecting Roman had formulated a plan, he went to a side of the wooden wall that didn't have a gate and wrapped mana around his legs before jumping over the wall. After he had gotten inside the village Roman dashed behind one of the huts nearby hiding himself in its shadows with a few touches of darkness magic to further enhance his concealment.
He would dash from shadow to shadow observing the goblins and assessing their overall power level. Roman watched the goblins interacting with each other, the hunters coming back victoriously with dead animals in tow, the female goblins laughing with eachother while crudely sewing the rags that all the goblins wore and the children who were having fun playing games.
Roman watched all of this with coldness in his heart, knowing that soon they would all die by his hands.
Although Roman didn't have to massacare the village, he deemed it the most efficent way to garner experience points. As unlike normal creatures in the forest that at most, were in groups of five or six, this goblin village had hundreds of goblins densly packed together. So instead of having to travel from place to place killing a few creatures at a time, he could kill hundreds in one go.
Other than the regular goblins Roman had observed, he had also noted down some stronger goblin variants that may pose a challange to him but nevertheless his confidence in bringing this village to ruins remained firm.
Roman had a plan in place to to make sure the maximum amount of goblins would die and the fewest amount of goblins would successfully escape. However one of the plan's prerequisites was it would have to be executed at night. This meant Roman would have to be patient and wait until the sun set and darkness enveloped the forest.
Patience, however, was something that Roman had in abundence. He waited for hours, hiding in the village's darkest shadows until finally the sun had fully set and darkness had taken over.
Roman noticed that the two gates had closed when night had arrived and goblins had stopped coming in and out the village.
'Just as predicted.'
However goblins continued to patrol the village undistured and the patrols were particularly dense around the two closed gates. But that was fine, just a small problem to overcome.
Roman remained catious though and waited another hour after sun set before initating his plan so the patrolling goblins' guard would be at their lowest.
He first sneaked towards the front gate and observed that twelfth goblins patrolled around it, four to the left of the gate, four in the middle and four to the right.
All twelfth of them would have to die silently without alerting the rest of the village.
Roman quietly unsheathed his sword and sneaked to the left group of goblins. To kill all twelfth of these goblins without alerting anyone would require Roman to use one of his ultimate moves, he calls it:
The flash state.
The ultimate move involes using Phantom stride while also using mana veil to coat his legs in mana. The move allows Roman to access ridiculous speed with the drawbacks being very little control as Roman's perception could barely handle such rapid speeds and an extreme expediture of mana. The reason for such intense mana drainage was because using both skills at once wasn't simply adding their mana expeditures together, it was multiplying them. It would be multiplicative because it takes a lot more mana to enhance his legs with mana veil whilst using phantom stride then while not. That is because Phantom stride enhances him speed so when trying to use mana veil on top of it then that would mean trying to enhance his already enhanced legs which would take a lot more energy thus meaning more mana.
Roman steadied himself and firstly coated the blade of the sword with mana so he could more easily cut through goblin flesh. Then he studied the way that the goblins moved and planned how to strike as when activating the flash state he would have very little control of his body so Roman would need to plan how to move before activating it.
When all was said and done Roman steeled his mind and activated his ultimate move, the flash state.
Extreme speed coursed through him, he sigzaged through all twelfth goblins slicing their necks and beheading all of them.
They all died without even knowing it.
Within less then a second Roman flashed from the far left to the far right, he instantly deactivated the flash state and sheathed his sword, less then a second of the flash state consumed a quarter of his mana pool.
Roman looked back and saw that the first goblin he slashed and the last had both their heads slide off their bodies at the same time just due to the sheer speed Roman killed them all, and after that a barrage of notification hit him.
