Overwhelmed

"Rachel, think about it some more, certainly, a person like Benjamin can't save your life‽" Tristan didn't concern himself with Benjamin as he turned to Rachel to seek some clarification.

"I have already..." Rachel's words were then stuck in her throat as Paul shushed her to be quite. Everyone on this floor also turned quite as they perked up their ears to hear at what Paul was hearing.

Pat! Pat! Pat! Pat! Pat!

All of them could hear it. It was not one or two, it seemed to be a stomp of countless corrupted beasts which were running towards their direction.

"We have to move! Now!!!" Paul hollered and turned towards the emergency door. On the other hand, Benjamin carried Rachel and followed behind Paul.

Tristan remained rooted on the spot as he had not registered what those stompts and the escape of his friends mean. What was going in his mind was the words of rejection that he heard from Rachel. He couldn't believe it after what he had done for Rachel.

Clank! Clank! Clank! Clank!

The sounds of a metal roof falling on the floor was heard in the staircase which brought Tristan out of his reverie.

"Yes. I have to ask Rachel to forgive me for not rescuing her earlier. I still have a chance, right? Rachel is not that bad and I believe she will forgive me." Tristan smiled when this thought came in to his mind but when he stared at the door leading to the staircase, he could see countless corrupted ones squirming on top of each other just to reach on this floor. Tristan could even see that seven corrupted ones had already stepped on this floor and they squirmed on the floor due to the stress of being stomped on by their counterparts. The seven corrupted beasts stood up and plodded towards the escaping survivours.

It was just at this moment that Tristan realized that he was the only person left on this floor. Tristan could see the last person walking into the emergency exit safely.

"Wait for me guys!" Tristan hollered with a frustrated voice. A corrupted beast clawed Tristan's back leaving several claw marks that allowed blood to come out. This attack brought Tristan down onto the floor but Tristan didn't turn around to retaliate against the beasts as he stared at the emergency exit with redened eyes.

"I have to reach to that door no matter what! Only by walking through that door, would I be safe." Tristan squirmed on the floor as he dragged his body towards the door but no sooner had he reached close to the door than Benjamin banged the door shut on him.

Tristan could even recall the sinister smirk that was plastered on Benjamin's face before he closed that door. Everyone that passed through the emergency door had left without closing the door but it seemed like Benjamin came back just for this moment.

"It is over! It's certainly over for me!! What did I do to Benjamin to deserve this‽ Was it because of Rachel?"

"Open the door Benjamin! Please open the door, we can talk about this over, you don't have to do this to me. Benjamin... Benjamin... Benjamin... Benjamin please, open... Benjamin..." Tristan's sorrowful cries were cut shot after a claw was sent his way and it ripped a chunk of flesh from his ribs. One could even see the ribs which were now not protected by the flesh. Blood dripped down from his ribs as Tristan panicked. This overwhelming pressure was one that he had never felt before.

On the other side of the door, Benjamin could be seen smiling and he said, "Rest in peace Tristan."

Tristan was also overwhelmed by a sense of helplessness, despair and remorse. .

"What can I do?"

"What can I do?"

"Commit suicide? No! I have yet to teach Benjamin a lesson for what he has done to me."

"Yes, I can only kill the beasts to survive and grow stronger and take my revenge later on. What I should do now is to survive and search where I can escape through." Tristan said his decision determiningly.

Standing up haggardly like a drunk person, Tristan grinned widely before drawing out his cleaver. The injuries on his body were too many and they just added to his deteriorating look, he was feeling pain all over his body but he didn't took a damn.

[ Level one corrupted beasts: Infant Bloodthirsty Gollum - This beast is too weak but it is feared because of how it attack using their overwhelming numbers. They can easily take down a level 50 beast just mainly using their numbers alone. However, they are non aggressive to corpses because they are mainly fueled by the flickering lifeforces in living beings because they need to have this lifeforce to grow to maturity. ]

For the first time, Tristan was using his skill The All Seeing Eye.The skill could perceive the information of level one beasts and so, the corrupted beats before him were not left out.

"If this is an infant, how powerful will a grown Bloodthirsty Gollum look like? Wait. It says that the Gollums are uninterested in corpses is it possible for me to become a corpse? This will not work. If I die I die, there is no revival. So, this information can not help me, what I can only do is to fight these Gollum infants to the death. Between them and I, only one of us will be left standing."

This internal conversation took place in mere seconds so it didn't affect reality that much. Since Tristan had already made up his mind, he moved to action but he suddenly came to a halt after he remembered something.
