Chapter 136: Peak Idiocy!

On screen, the roof of a warehouse was blown off, and its metal walls were shredded like paper.

A colossal reptilian creature, the size of a truck, burst out from within.

Its head had a bone-white structure, six glowing eyes, and its body resembled a massive, grotesquely enlarged lizard.

The moment it broke free, it began heading toward the city.

"Oh my god, what the hell is that?!"

A D-class personnel's terrified voice came through as the screen shook violently, his heavy breathing audible.

Meanwhile, in the warehouse district, plumes of dust rose, and the roar of engines filled the air.

"Hey, I think we should hide. If someone else is running in to die, we might as well just watch from the side!"

A D-class personnel nervously requested permission.

The containment site director approved the request.

The footage shifted, positioning behind a warehouse, stabilizing the frame with one-third showing the wall and two-thirds capturing the exterior.

Several modified Humvees roared toward the massive lizard.

At the same time, the recording equipment picked up voices.

"WTF?! What the hell is that?!"

"Shit! That damn lizard is bigger than the trucks!"

"Shoot it! Open fire! If that thing gets out, our whole base is done for!"

Immediately, figures clad in black suits emerged from the Humvees—The Distillery's enforcers.

They carried AK-47 assault rifles and quickly took aim at the monstrous lizard.

A barrage of gunfire erupted.

Bullets tore into the massive creature's body, ripping through its flesh and sending blood spraying into the air.

The injured lizard froze in place, letting out an incomprehensible, nightmarish cry; a mix of agonized wailing and enraged howling.

A sound so alien and deafening that it instilled pure terror in those who heard it.

Then, it turned.

The monstrous lizard charged straight for the nearest Humvee.

"SHOOT! KEEP FIRING! DON'T LET THAT THING GET CLOSE!"

"DRIVE, DAMN IT! YOU WANT TO DIE? THE DISTILLERY DIDN'T HIRE YOU TO JUST STAND THERE!"

"Fuck! Why is that thing moving so fast all of a sudden?! SHOOT ITS EYES!"

Panic-stricken screams came from the Humvee.

The driver slammed the accelerator, tires screeching against the pavement.

The black-suited enforcers emptied their magazines, unleashing a storm of bullets at the charging beast.

Then, the horror unfolded.

The bullets, which had earlier torn through its flesh, were now utterly ineffective.

The gunfire pinged off its body with a metallic clang.

At some point, the lizard had grown scales. Layered, overlapping scales—a natural armor impervious to gunfire. And its speed, it now outpaced the Humvee.

Before the vehicle could escape, the monstrous lizard pounced—

Flipping the armored Humvee over.

Amidst the frantic screams—

The massive lizard clamped its jaws down on the vehicle.

A horrifying crunch echoed.

The heavily modified Humvee, built for war, lasted only thirty seconds before—

With a final, gut-wrenching screech—

The monstrous lizard ripped it apart.

With a few more bites, the entire Hummer was reduced to something akin to a small biscuit. Metal mixed with flesh, the agonized wails gradually faded, all swallowed into the belly of the lizard.

The camera zoomed in, focusing on the giant lizard's mouth.

What was originally a smooth, bare area was now covered with three dense layers of razor-sharp teeth. The structure was akin to that of a shark's teeth; layer upon layer, instantly replaced as soon as one was broken.

It was precisely these fangs that allowed the creature to devour solid alloy like it was nothing more than a snack.

The process was even easier than a human using a can opener.

After swallowing several men in black, the massive lizard's wounds which previously torn open by bullets, began to heal at an astonishing rate.

Flesh regenerated before their eyes, new organs and scales forming in an instant.

The remaining black-clad operatives in the distillery watched this unfold, feeling as if they had been transported into a sci-fi disaster movie, paralyzed by fear and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, the Foundation had already gathered a wealth of information.

Site Director: "This anomalous entity possesses extreme regenerative abilities and is continuously evolving!"

Yes, evolving.

Because it had been shot, the giant lizard developed bullet-resistant scales.

Because it had trouble biting through the alloy vehicle, it evolved triple-layered fangs capable of crushing metal effortlessly.

The terrifying part?

What takes humans thousands of years to gradually evolve, this giant lizard accomplished in mere moments.

What it displayed before humanity was a nightmarish adaptability.

If natural selection is the law of nature, then this lizard was its very embodiment.

"Fuck! What the hell is this thing?! Guns are useless!"

"Run! Get Chianti to bring the anti-materiel sniper rifle!"

"No! Have HQ fire an RPG at it! Blow it to pieces!"

Shouts echoed through the warehouse district.

The remaining Humvees sped off in different directions, scattering like startled birds.

They had yet to grasp the creature's ability to evolve and still believed that stronger firepower could take it down.

However, even though they made a swift retreat—

The enraged giant lizard had no intention of letting them go.

"Thud! Thud! Thud!"

A terrifying, boulder-like impact echoed repeatedly.

The men in black glanced through their rearview mirrors and were met with an utterly horrifying sight.

The massive lizard, as large as a truck, was charging at them at a speed no living creature should be capable of. Every step it took shattered the concrete ground, leaving gaping craters behind.

Can you imagine a truck-sized reptile, thundering towards you with unstoppable force?

That kind of image could only inspire despair.

The massive lizard caught up to the fleeing Hummer and crashed into it head-on.

The ground split apart, a massive crater forming as the impact sent debris flying for over ten meters.

The alloy-reinforced Humvee was flattened into a metal pancake.

The giant lizard casually devoured the crumpled vehicle in a few bites.

Its body swelled slightly.

Then, it set its sights on the next target.

This was nothing short of a one-sided massacre.

The men in black had no means of resistance.

Before long, all the Humvees were caught and destroyed, their occupants consumed in the process.

The lizard came to a stop, raised its head, and let out a deafening roar.

"We have to run! This thing isn't something humans can fight! It's the apocalypse—it's a disaster!"

A D-Class personnel holding the recording equipment trembled as he spoke.

He requested permission from the Foundation to retreat.

The Site Director denied the request.

The Foundation required continued observation of the anomaly, anyone who attempted to flee would be executed.

"Are you all insane?! Against a monster like this?! I'd rather die!"

The D-Class personnel was on the verge of breaking down.

However, something even more horrifying occurred in the distance.

The giant lizard's roar suddenly changed.

It no longer emitted incomprehensible sounds. Instead, it began speaking in a hoarse, ragged voice—

Like that of an old man on his deathbed.

"You… disgust me!"

The giant lizard spoke human language.

This was far more terrifying than anything that had come before.

The next moment, it lunged toward the camera.

Amid panicked screams, a massive maw tore through the warehouse walls, filling the screen.

Then, the transmission was cut off.

Haruto watched the anomalous encounter report, his eyes narrowing with a perplexed expression.

If there were a meme to describe this moment, it would be the one of an old man on a subway staring at his phone.

What the hell is this?

Clearly, this anomaly appearing on the western coast of the Northern Nation was a major problem.

But the bigger issue—

'Are these "Distillery" guys mentally ill?!'

They were practically feeding themselves to the giant lizard as experience points.

Haruto pulled open his window.

Black wings sprouted from his back.

With a single flap, a sonic boom rang out as he shot into the sky, leaving his apartment at high speed.

As he flew, Haruto sent a message to the Northern Nation Foundation site staff.

"Expand the containment perimeter. Evacuate all civilians. Do NOT use physical or energy-based attacks on the anomaly."

"Also, kick those 'Distillery' idiots out of the perimeter. Stop letting them feed it experience!"

"Judging by its adaptability and evolution, further attacks could have catastrophic consequences."

"If those morons fire an RPG at it, the map of the Northern Nation might need to be redrawn!"

However, just as the message was sent—

The Northern Nation Foundation site forwarded Haruto a new video.

In the footage, a helicopter was hovering above the warehouse district.

It was armed with a Gatling gun, unloading a hailstorm of bullets onto the giant lizard below.

Then, a black missile shot through the air—

And obliterated the helicopter.

However, the heavy gunfire had already triggered another round of evolution.

Watching this unfold, Haruto was completely dumbfounded.

Originally, in the plot, the "Distillery" fools had once fired a helicopter's machine guns at Tokyo Tower.

Haruto had thought that was the pinnacle of stupidity.

But now—

Who the hell ordered this?!

Opening fire on the Immortal Lizard, who gave them the nerve?!
