Chapter Nine

The next day, Aurora calmed herself and went downstairs to the restaurant for a meal. The mushroom food on the table had been replaced with normal food. She also tried to walk out of the Onyx Garden and found that no one stopped her. It was as if there were no restrictions in the Onyx Garden, and she could come and go as she pleased.

However, she was well aware that the security in the Onyx Estate was tight, and it was almost impossible to leave without Maverick's permission.

Aurora walked alone on the street of Sun City. She had been here for some days, but she had never had the opportunity to breathe such free air. She looked up at the sun in the sky, and the sunlight was so intense that tears filled her eyes. She didn't know when she could leave...

Aurora stopped at the side of the road and saw a plastic surgery hospital. Without hesitation, she walked in and went to the reception desk.

"Hello, how may I help you?" the receptionist asked.

"I...I saw your recruitment information online, so I came to inquire." Aurora said.

"Did you submit your resume?"

"I want to talk to your manager in person," Aurora said. After all, she wasn't really here for the work.

"I'm sorry, we require you to submit a resume and receive a phone call for an interview information." The receptionist said in a business manner.

Aurora didn't have a resume. She was just a high school graduate. She couldn't go to college then due to her pregnancy. She didn't have a proper job because she had to take care of her child while working.

She wasn't looking for a job at a plastic surgery hospital for work, but rather to undergo reconstructive surgery through other channels. Otherwise, if Maverick found out, there would definitely be trouble. She had to do it without anyone knowing...

"... Aurora?" When she heard someone calling her, Aurora turned around and saw a tall and handsome man, and remembered who he was... Maverick's friend, Caleb.

During her high school days, she occasionally saw him with Maverick. But due to his relationship with Maverick and the many years that had passed, Aurora's expression still showed a hint of panic...

Caleb turned his head and said something to the woman next to him, and the woman left. When she passed by Aurora, she glanced at her more than once.

Caleb walked up to Aurora and looked at the slender girl, asking kindly, "Do you still remember me?"

"Yes, you're Caleb." Caleb smiled and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm looking for a job.," Aurora glanced at the front desk. "But I need to submit my resume first..."

Caleb thought for a moment, "Wait a moment..." and then took out his phone to make a call, not bothering to step away.

Aurora was surprised by the conversation she overhead. After the call ended, Caleb said, "You can go to the HR department now."

Aurora immediately understood what was going on. After all, Caleb is the heir of the Mason Family and Maverick's friend, who wouldn't give him face.

Aurora didn't expect Caleb to help her and didn't know what to say, "I feel embarrassed now."

Caleb laughed and raised his eyebrows, "I happen to know the boss, it's just a small favour."

Aurora was very grateful, "Thank you!"

"It's been a few years, are we really that unfamiliar?" Caleb asked.

Aurora felt uneasy. Though Caleb had helped her before when she was bullied by Maverick in School, but he is Maverick's friend.

"Go inside now!" Caleb said.

"Okay." Aurora didn't say anything extra and followed the receptionist to the HR department.

She had a purpose for coming to work. So, after leaving the HR department, she headed to the doctor's office. After signing a confidentiality agreement, she performed a restorative surgery.

It wasn't until she got off the operation table that she finally felt relieved.

But this was only a temporary problem that needed to be solved. Her real goal was to leave Onyx Garden and escape from Maverick...

Afterwards, she hid in the bathroom and made a video call to the five children.

"Mommy, why haven't you called us recently?" Julian looked very aggrieved, his face turning red.

"Mommy, do you have any interesting work?" David asked expectantly.

"Mommy, when are you coming back?" Little daughter Ava asked.

"Mommy promised to come back soon.." Ethan said.

"Mommy didn't keep her promise!" Kelvin said, looking angry and sad.

"Mommy will come back as soon as possible, okay?" Aurora's heart ached as she listened to her children crying.

"You guys should go to the room, auntie will talk to Mommy, okay?" Mia said, sending the kids to their room.

"Aurora, what happened? Where are you? Why haven't you called me to bring the kids over?" Xu Jiaqi asked, looking worried.

"Mia, Maverick kidnapped me." Aurora said, tears welling up in her eyes.

"What did you say? M...Maverick? Is he not abroad? Why did he come back?" What about the kids?..." Mia trembled as she asked.

Maverick is a devil in human cloth. He's not human. What will happen to her friend?

After a while, Mia calmed herself and asked, "When will he leave you?" She asked.

"I don't know. But I got a job, and I'm planning to use it as an excuse to leave. Mia, just take care of the children, I'll be back soon." Aurora said and hung up the call.

After ending the call, Aurora composed herself before returning to work.

There was a nurse who specifically took care of her and had her work as a nursing assistant, mainly doing post-operative cleaning work.

As the night fell and the lights came on, Aurora finally left the plastic surgery hospital.

Standing on the roadside at the hospital entrance, she felt lost and timid. She didn't want to go back to Chen Garden.

A Bentley car stopped in front of her, and Caleb's face appeared in the window, "Aurora."

Aurora was slightly stunned, "Want to have a dinner together?" Caleb invited.

Aurora hesitated for a moment, but still agreed, "Sure."

In a restaurant with an elegant style, soft music surrounded them. They chose a seat by the window, where they could see the bustling street outside.

"How did you adapt to work this afternoon?" Caleb asked.

"Pretty good, thank you." Aurora replied.

"Aurora, you don't need to thank me." Caleb said, smiling.

Aurora smiled. "I didn't expect to run into you. It's a surprise. You helped me a lot, so let me treat you to this meal!"

"How about you treat me next time?"

In other words, they'd be next time.

Aurora knew she couldn't get too close to Caleb, as it wouldn't benefit her. But she couldn't resist Caleb's request for the moment, especially since he had helped her today.

"Okay," she said.

"Are you graduating early? Caleb asked.

"I didn't go to college." Aurora replied nonchalantly.

"Okay. But you got a scholarship then?" Caleb asked.

"Yes, but something unexpected came up." Aurora replied

She couldn't tell Caleb that she got pregnant, after all he's Maverick's friend. Even if he's kind to her, the fact remains.

"You're very different from other girls, I noticed that before," Caleb said, his eyes deep as he looked at her.
