He's Slipping Away

Carmen gave a small smile, trying to appear unaffected by the situation. “It was recent,” she said, keeping her response short.

Elena’s countenance shifted, a subtle but undeniable sting of jealousy crossing her face. She glanced at Carmen. “When exactly did you two get married?” she asked, her tone slightly sharper.

Carmen’s posture stiffened. She could feel Elena’s thinly veiled hostility, but she kept her smile, even though her nerves were fraying. There was no way she’d tell them it was just yesterday they got married. “It’s been a few weeks,” she answered, glancing at Pablo, who seemed equally uncomfortable.

Miguel, however, appeared more intrigued than anything, his eyes flicking between Carmen and Pablo. “Well, this is quite a surprise. Romero never mentioned a word about it, not even the media did as well,” he said with a low chuckle, almost as if he found the whole thing amusing.
