Bad Timing

Carmen shook her head again. “I can never think of you being that, sir.”

“Then what makes you think you can just brush off what happened last night? Pretend like nothing happened?” Romero queried, his voice getting colder.

Carmen stiffened but didn’t flinch. “My apologies, but that’s what I intend to do, sir. We have more important things to focus on. Your health and business. A meaningless kiss shouldn’t bother you.”

Romero leaned back on the headboard, his jaw twitching, and his eyes never leaving hers. “I see…” that was all he said as he reached for the cup of coffee and took a sip, his gaze still fixed on her.

Carmen forced herself to hide her nervousness. “If there’s nothing else, Mister Monteiro, I’ll get ready and go to the office,” she said.

Romero didn’t respond right away. He simply watched her, his expression unreadable. After what felt like an eternity, he gave a small nod. “Do as you wish.”
