“Mister Monteiro,” Carmen said, her voice steadying as she stepped closer to his bedside. “You’re awake.”
Romero's eyes narrowed as he pushed himself slightly up on the bed, his voice hoarse but firm. “I asked where you're going, Carmen. You're supposed to be resting, not running around the city.”
Carmen opened her mouth, but before she could respond, Pablo interjected. “I suggested she attend the board meeting. Perez has called for one, and her presence might be crucial to counter whatever he’s planning.”
Romero’s gaze shifted sharply to Pablo. “You suggested? Are you out of your mind? Carmen is still recovering from the accident. She doesn’t need to be anywhere near that meeting.”
“I’m fine, Mister Monteiro,” Carmen said, her voice tinged with frustration. “I’m not going to sit here and let Perez manipulate the board while I do nothing. I need to be there.”
