An Ambitious Old Fox
After the maids served the food, Mr. Beaufort said a small grace before they all began eating. The tension at the table was still heavy for Alana as Rose's gaze was pinned on her, even as she ate.
"So, Alana, tell me more about yourself. What do you do?" Mr. Beaufort asked, breaking the short silence at the table.
Alana lifted her head from her plate, her attention falling on Mr. Beaufort.
"I'm in my final year of college, studying business management, though I will be graduating in a few months' time," Alana replied politely, and Mr. Beaufort nodded in understanding.
He was about to say something when Jean beat him to it.
"I know you're trying to be subtle, dad... but we all know that the only thing you're truly interested in knowing is her family's standing or net worth," she said, taking a spoonful of her soup without a care for how her father or anyone at the table would react.
