All day long, I couldn't stop thinking about everything Dexter had told me. It was hard to believe, but deep down I knew it was true. When I entered Miss Garcia's office, I saw my boss looking through her phone. I spoke up, "Sorry for interrupting, but can I have the day off tomorrow?" Miss Garcia looked up at me, concern in her eyes, and asked, "Is it something urgent or related to Mr. Hillary?" I shook my head and replied, "No, something very important came up and I need to talk to my mom about it." Miss Garcia nodded solemnly, "I don't know what's wrong, but don't let it affect my business. You can take tomorrow off." She went back to her phone, and I thanked her before leaving for work.
The next day, the taxi pulled up in front of my mom's house. I paid for the ride and got out of the taxi. My mom was outside, watering the garden at the front of her house. She grew scented flowers, a hobby she had since I was little. Whenever she tended to her garden, she always seemed distant, as if she was missing someone. I once asked her about it, and the look she gave me still gives me goosebumps to this day.
My mother, sensing my presence, turned and looked at me with a smile on her face. "Oh, sweetheart, you could've informed me you were coming today," she said, hugging me. I just smiled and answered, "I know, but it was urgent. Can we go in, mom?" My mother, even though in her late 40, still looks so charming. I had often wondered why she never got married. Besides, she was like the upgraded version of me. Thinking about that, I chuckled.
While inside, my mom gave me some cookie and milk, regretting why she didn't prepare a meal and jokingly saying it was my fault for not informing her that I was coming. After spending some time together, I thought it was high time I brought up what I was here for. I looked at my mom, who was sitting beside me as we looked at some pictures of when I was a cute baby.
I couldn't hold it anymore and asked, "Mom?" My mother looked at me, knowing I wanted to say something. "Who is my dad?" Immediately after I said that, I watched the life drain out from my mother's face.
"Please don't, Danielle. Why would you want to ask about him?" she said, looking bitter. "Because I just found out that I am not who I think I am," I replied. My mother gasped. "What do you mean?" I looked at my mom directly, without wavering, and asked, "Am I a wolf?"
My mom was too stunned to speak, she closed her eyes and exhaled, while nodding her head. "I am so sorry Dan, I should have told you sooner. How does it feel like?" She asked, worried. I can't believe all this is true, it still didn't make sense to me. "Mom, are you saying it's true? That all I have heard is true and not false? Why didn't you tell me all this while?" She started crying. "Oh my baby, it's not like that. It's a long story, love. I am just a mere human. How can a mere human be a Luna of a pack? I am sorry Dan, it's my fault. I got rejected for being born like this." I didn't quite understand her, I wish I do. "So mom, please, do tell me about it, please," she swallowed. "I never knew wolves existed. It happened twenty-six years ago. I was just a young girl who was looking for ends meet. I went to a place I thought I could find greener pasture, a town. I never knew it was a pack, where humans and wolves lived together. A few humans knew of the wolves, the ones who were mated to one. I thought it was a normal town, where if you are determined to get what you want you will, the way everything seems too good to be true, not knowing it was run by wolves, by an alpha and a luna by his side." I listened attentively. "I am sorry Dan, he doesn't even know I have you. I hid it from him. I am so sorry Dan, I am a coward."
I hugged my mom, I didn't like the way she was crying. It hurts me. "Dan, your father isn't a bad guy, he is a good one. But circumstances made us like this. An alpha is not supposed to be paired with a human. It has never happened before. I am sorry. On that day, I had decided to go over to Kingston town also known as the warriors pack. That was how all of this came to pass......."
A twenty-one-year-old Eunice exclaimed, "Wow, I can't believe this apartment is so cheap! I love this town and the atmosphere. I wish I had come here sooner." I said, smiling to myself. I am going to make the best of it. The forest at the back of the building is so beautiful and peaceful. The little inheritance I got from my grandfather after his passing, I could use it to start up a business here. I just hope it will work well. I really miss him so much. He left me alone in this world. I have absolutely no one.
My grandfather found me on his front porch one morning, wrapped in a blanket and placed in a basket. He had no choice but to bring me inside and contacted the police. Since he lived alone, he adopted me and even got me a nanny. Everyone loved me as I associated myself with the old towns folks.
He raised me with love and care, and I never lacked anything. Unfortunately, death took him away from me. I still love him very much, but now all I have left are memories of him.
The apartment I just moved into was already furnished, and to be honest, it's surprisingly cheap. I never expected it to be so affordable considering its size and the quality of the furniture. I wonder if this is some kind of charity or something. If I were the landlord, I wouldn't think it's a good deal. But who am I to complain? I went to the window and looked out at the woods, breathing in the fresh air. This is a fresh start for me, and I intend to make the most of it.
In the evening, I went out to get groceries because I had to make dinner. Everyone I had met so far was nice to me. Is this some kind of fairyland? I went home and made a meal, and enjoyed it. This town has a lovely spirit attached to it. Night came, and I went to bed. I closed my eyes as I slept. Outside, it was bright with a full moon. Suddenly, I jolted up from my sleep. I heard the howling of wolves, clear as day. Feeling scared, I got out of bed. Are there really wolves in Kingston warriors' pack? The town's name is a bit odd. I went to the living room, made sure my door was locked, and then went back to my bedroom. "Maybe wolves do live here, since it's close to the forest. I shouldn't overthink it too much. I'll be fine. It's just nature," I said to myself as I got back into bed and fell asleep.
