Chapter 23: The Hunter and the Beast

Elias followed Althea through the crowded streets, his senses still adjusting to the overwhelming clarity of the world around him. Every sound was sharper, every movement more defined. He could hear the heartbeat of a stray dog, smell the sweat of the merchants, and feel the shifting air of people passing by. It was exhilarating-and terrifying.

"You're walking like you're about to pounce on something," Althea muttered, glancing back at him.

Elias forced himself to relax, loosening his clenched fists. "Just getting used to it."

She led him into a small, dimly lit training hall at the edge of the city. Inside, a few adventurers were sparring, but the moment they saw Althea, they gave her space. Clearly, she commanded respect here.

"Alright," she said, turning to face him. "Show me what you've got."

Elias frowned. "What do you mean?"

"You absorbed Kaelis' power, didn't you? I want to see how much control you have."

Elias hesitated. He could still feel the raw power of the Beastlord coursing through him. He had used his new abilities in battle, but testing them here, in a controlled environment, felt different.

Althea didn't wait for his answer. She lunged.

Elias barely had time to react before she was in front of him, her blade slashing toward his shoulder. His body moved on instinct-his reflexes heightened by Beast Mastery. He dodged effortlessly, his muscles responding with unnatural speed.

"Good," she said, adjusting her stance. "But let's push it further."

Elias gritted his teeth. If she wanted to see what he could do, he'd show her. He took a deep breath and let his instincts take over.

Primal Roar.

A deep, guttural sound erupted from his throat, shaking the entire hall. The force of it sent a wave of energy outward, causing Althea to stagger slightly. The weaker adventurers in the hall stumbled back, eyes wide with shock.

Althea recovered quickly, a smirk forming on her lips. "Not bad. But don't rely on brute force alone."

Elias exhaled, the energy fading. He could feel the temptation to keep pushing, to let the beast within fully take over. But that wasn't who he was.

Althea studied him for a moment before nodding. "You'll need control if you want to survive the next layer. Power means nothing if it makes you reckless."

Elias clenched his fists. She was right. The Beastlands had given him strength-but now, he needed to master it.

And soon, he would.
