Chapter 39 Shadows That Hunt

[System Notification: You have entered Floor 31 The Labyrinth of Shadows.]

The notification flashed before Elias' eyes, vanishing just as quickly. As expected, the fourth layer wasn't going to welcome them with open arms.

He and Althea stood in a shifting corridor, the walls seemingly moving like a breathing entity. The dim glow from Althea's holy energy barely pushed back the overwhelming darkness. Meanwhile, the static charge of Elias' lightning magic crackled around him, sending brief sparks into the void.

"We're definitely in," Elias muttered. "Now we just have to make sure we get out."

Althea shot him a look. "Stay focused. The real challenge isn't the assassins-it's the labyrinth itself."

[System Notification: Warning! The Labyrinth shifts every 10 minutes. Losing your way is permanent.]

Elias clicked his tongue. "Great. This place cheats."

A faint rustling sound came from their left. Althea's grip on her sword tightened, and Elias instinctively raised his hands, electricity building between his fingers. Their enemies weren't gone.

Suddenly, a shadow blurred toward them at an impossible speed-silent, lethal.

Elias reacted fast, raising his hand just as Primal Roar exploded from within him. The soundwave rippled through the air, sending the assassin staggering back.

Althea didn't hesitate. She flashed forward, her blade slicing through the assassin's chest in a swift, precise motion.

The figure crumpled, dissolving into darkness.

[System Notification: Enemy defeated. No abilities absorbed.]

Elias exhaled. "Fast, but fragile. They can't take a hit."

Althea wiped her blade clean, eyes sharp. "They don't have to. Their goal is to kill before being seen."

Elias frowned. "Then we need to make sure they never get the chance."

He clenched his fists, tapping into his Elemental Fury. Electricity crackled to life, illuminating the corridor.

[System Notification: Floor 31 Challenge Activated - Survive the Shadows.]

A deep, chilling voice echoed through the labyrinth.

"The light will not save you. The hunt begins."

The walls shifted violently, corridors twisting into new paths. A cold realization settled over Elias-the trial had only just begun.
