The spectral generals moved in unison, their forms flickering as they circled Elias, Althea, and Lyra. Their weapons-ethereal blades, halberds, and war-hammers-gleamed with a ghostly light, remnants of divine power lingering in their forms.
Elias rolled his shoulders, exhaling. His strength wasn't back yet, and his mana reserves were still recovering after using God Slayer. He needed to fight strategically-raw power wouldn't be enough this time.
[SYSTEM ALERT: WAR COUNCIL TRIAL INITIATED.]
[OBJECTIVE: DEFEAT THE FOUR SPECTRAL GENERALS.]
Four names burned into the air before them:
General Varkos - The Blade of Conquest (Wielding a cursed longsword that drains life from his enemies.)
General Haldrek - The Iron Wall (A shieldmaster, capable of repelling all attacks.)
General Sythra - The Shadow Tactician (A master of illusion and misdirection.)
General Draven - The Blood Reaper (A warlord who thrives on the pain of battle, growing stronger with each wound.)
Elias clicked his tongue.
"Of course it wouldn't be simple."
The first to move was Varkos-his cursed blade hummed with energy as he lunged at Elias.
Elias sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the strike, but he felt something-a sharp pull on his life force.
The blade didn't need to cut him-its aura alone drained energy.
Althea reacted instantly, raising her staff.
"Holy Bind!"
Golden chains shot out, attempting to restrain Varkos. But before they could wrap around him, Sythra vanished into the shadows, reappearing behind Althea.
A dagger flashed.
Elias' instincts screamed.
Phantom Step!
His body flickered into the ethereal plane, barely avoiding the dagger as it sliced through where he had stood. He reappeared a few meters away, heart pounding.
Lyra snarled, lifting her hands.
"Enough. Infernal Ruin!"
A circle of crimson flames erupted beneath Sythra, but the shadow tactician merely smirked -his body split into multiple clones, scattering across the battlefield.
Damn it.
Elias needed a plan. He couldn't overpower them right now-but he could outthink them.
He gripped his sword.
"Althea, keep Draven at a distance. Lyra, disrupt Haldrek-I'll handle Varkos."
Both women nodded.
Elias charged.
The Battlefield Shifts
Varkos met Elias head-on, their swords clashing with a metallic ring. Each impact sent vibrations through Elias' arms he was still weaker than usual, but he refused to let that slow him down.
He twisted, using Phantom Step to dodge a downward strike before countering with Death's Touch-his blade crackling with necrotic energy.
Varkos' spectral form shuddered as the energy weakened him..
Elias didn't stop.
Primal Roar!
The battlefield trembled as a wave of bestial fury erupted from him, stunning both Varkos and Sythra's clones.
Lyra took the opening, launching a wave of searing magic at Haldrek, forcing the shieldmaster to brace against the attack.
Althea, meanwhile, unleashed a barrage of radiant spears, pinning Draven back as he howled in rage.
The tide of battle was shifting.
"You aren't so untouchable after all."
Elias grinned darkly.
