Life or honour?

An eerie silence engulfed Helios, with the heavy pants of the four dumbfounded assassins creating rhythmic ripples across its surface.

Indeed, the bewilderment of the assassins was most certainly not unjustified. They were the master of their profession, the elite among the elites, otherwise they would not have been selected to serve Her Highness.

But now, a mere twelve year old boy has proved that he can end their lives in one breath if he wished to. In fact, he has already felled their leader.

And that man was presenting them with a choice to retain their lives. But that comes at the cost of their pride.

Life or honour?

A difficult choice indeed.

Suddenly, a deep voice jolted the assassins out of their stupor.

"Your three seconds are up."

Three of the assassins immediately kneeled in front of Helios and swore their unwavering loyalty to him. The last one, slightly more mature, however, continued standing stubbornly.

Disregarding the last man for the time being, Helios addressed the three grovelling at his feet.

Grabbing one of them by his hair, he forced the men to meet his mismatched eyes, one emitting a blood red aura, while the other remained calm, putting to shame even the rarest azure blue jade.

"Didn't you grovel like this in front of the Empress a few years back?"

"Y-yes, we did, Young Master", replied the panicked men, not wanting to further enrage the diabolical prince by remaining silent.

"At least you are honest. That's good. But remember, I don't exactly take well to turncoats. Hence....."

Helios let his words hang mid-sentence, focusing on action instead. His azure blue eye gleamed, and he murmured, "Mark!".

An intricate seal depicting a bird ensnared in green vines appeared on each of the men's forehead and slowly sunk beneath the skin, forever etched into their skulls.

"Now you can't betray me even if you want to."

"Understood and Thank You, Master", the men cupped their hands in reverence and gratitude, as if Helios had given them some heavenly reward.

"Good, now get out from my sight.", Helios barked.

The assassins fled, no hesitation in their eyes. After they have left, Helios turned to the remaining one.

"And as for you..."
