"You want me to what?"

Sunny's voice was laced with disbelief as he leaned back in the couch.

Across from him, Kai grinned and shook his head.

"Come on, man," Kai said, his tone playful but firm.

"Just ask her out on a date. Not that kind of date, but a proper one. There's this fancy dinner place where all the rich and whatever go to. I know you've taken her to every cool spot in town, but this one is different."

Kai continued, "I get it, you grew up on the outskirts and fancy places aren't really your scene. But for Nephis, it's worth trying something new."

Sunny thought about Kai's words.

He had spent basically all of his life in the outskirts, and it didn't help his parents dying at him at an early age.

So things like fancy restaurants that had polished silverware, and rich fat nobles who've never worked out a day in their life just rubbed him in the wrong way.

Yet, every memory he had of Nephis made him want to try.

Not becuase he didn't want to see Nephis in a dress..

Maybe.

'But I feel like I've been to everywhere with her…I mean we've been to a water park.. though that wasn't my idea. We went on a picnic, well it wasn't only us. The beach, tennis, shopping what else…?'

All these outings were definitely fun… but now, the idea of a fancy dinner was something new.

The thought made his heart beat a little faster.

He sighed, "For her," he whispered to himself. "For Nephis, I'd try anything."

That night, after Kai's pep talk, Sunny decided to make his move.

He spent the next day preparing, thinking about the right words and picking out an outfit. Though, he spent the whole day procrastinating on whether he should wear something casual or wear a suit and tie. That thought made him gag.

He couldn't help but smile at how different he felt. It wasn't just about looking nice, it was about showing Nephis that he cared enough to try something out of his comfort zone.

As night settled over the city, Sunny calmly knocked on their bedroom. He lightly but impatiently tapped his feet on the floor, as if wanting this moment to pass quickly.

He took a deep breath, rehearsing the words in his head until they felt just right.

'Would you go on a like to- No. Would you go on a date to me? Damnnation, Sunny… Would you go on a date with me? There.'

When Nephis opened the door, her eyes lit up with warmth and a hint of surprise.

"Hey, Sunny.. where you been?" she greeted softly, her smile making the moment feel light and easy.

He scratched his head nervously, looking anywhere but at Nephis.

'Why am I so damn nervous?! Just say it already!'

Without wasting any time, Sunny stepped forward. "Just planning something, but Nephis," he began, his voice steady even though his heart was racing, "I was wondering… would you like to go on a date with me?"

There was a brief pause.

Nephis looked at him, her eyes kind and understanding. Finally, she smiled and replied, "I'd love to."

******

'Ugh.. why am I wearing this?' He readjusted his suit for the 16th time as It felt uncomfortable.

During the time he went to go buy this attire, he got mistaken for a kid and said that he shouldn't be wearing things like this.

Fate didn't seem to be on his side today. As always.

A couple of hours passed as now Sunny and Nephis found themselves seated at a long table in the fancy restaurant Kai had mentioned.

The restaurant felt like a new civilization apart from the busy streets and casual spots they usually visited.

High ceilings, walls that shined, and gentle classical music filled the room and slightly ticked Sunny off.

He already know this was gonna be a bad day.
