"How is the patient?" A nurse asked a junior nurse as they walked down the hallway of a hospital.
"I am yet to check up on her," the junior nurse replied.
"Make sure to do so," the senior nurse said. "Doctor Rose does not accept failure so we must be careful and do what we must do so that the results will be success. These patients are our only hope to see that the Lyrixs are annihilated for good."
"Yes, nurse, I understand," the junior nurse replied and turned to another direction.
The senior nurse continued her walk until she got to a particular ward. She pushed the door open and went in.
Inside the ward, a young boy was lying on the bed with series of wires attached to his body.
"Are you going to sleep there forever?" She mumbled as she gazed at the boy.
Part of his face was covered with his grey hair which had grown slightly longer than before, his skin was deadly pale indicating how badly he lost blood, and then some part of his skin was stitched.
"I do not know what happened to you but you are lucky to be alive," the nurse said and turned to leave but just then, the boy moved. The nurse gasped and turned around, meeting the boy's green eyes, she didn't know whether to cry or to be happy — The boy's eyes were lifeless, staring blankly at her.
She rushed and checked his impulse, he was fine health-wise.
"I—" The boy tried to say something but his voice seemed to have been lost.
Seeing him struggle to speak, the nurse felt bad and went ahead to reassure him that everything would be alright.
"Just rest up, don't force yourself to do what your body can't. Things will be fine soon," she said. "Well, I'll be going off, there are other patients I need to see. The doctor will be here soon," she added before leaving the ward in relief.
Outside the door, a male nurse approached the her.
"Nurse Abi, why are you happy?" He asked, noticing a faint smile on her face.
"It's the boy in there, he's awake now," she replied and the male nurse was surprised.
"Really? After a month of being unconscious, that is great news," he said. "Doctor Rose will definitely be excited to know that she was able to keep him alive despite his horrible state back then."
Nurse Abi nodded. "That day, if it hadn't been for that boy with blue eyes, this one would have died after being attacked by a Lyrix. The boy is a good kid."
"But I wonder why the other boy was unharmed," the male nurse said and Nurse Abi thought hard about it.
"You are right about it, he wasn't hurt at all," she mumbled. "Maybe he arrived after the Lyrix that had attacked this boy left but if that is the case, it is likely impossible for a Lyrix to leave his/her prey half-dead without fully killing them."
"That is what I'm saying," the male nurse said. "Is it possible that the boy could be the one behind the attack?" He whispered and Nurse Abi widened her eyes.
There could be a possibility of that being the case but the boy in question looked very innocent and kind with a cheerful expression, she did not want to believe that.
"I doubt," she said. "You know what, enough about this. I need to go see the other patients," she concluded and then left. The male nurse shrugged his shoulders and continued on his way.
Meanwhile, inside the ward, the boy in there had heard everything the nurses discussed and his eyes became tearly. Although he didn't cry, the expression on his face indicated juyd how sad he was.
------
"Doctor Rose," Nurse Abi said as the female Doctor walked into the ward.
She glanced around and seeing all the patients in the large ward, she smiled faintly.
"How's everything going?" She asked nurse Abi.
"Doctor, everything is fine. They haven't been tested yet but the data analysis shows that the experiment was a success," nurse Abi replied, also smiling.
"That is very good," Doctor Rose breathed. "Our next step is to test them and if they are okay, they'll join OLT immediately."
"I'll see to that, Doctor," nurse Abi said and Doctor Rose nodded and was about to leave when she called her back. "Doctor, the boy is awake now."
Doctor Rose's eyes widened in surprise. "Is that so?" She asked nurse Abi.
"Yes, Doctor," nurse Abi replied.
"Let me go and see him," Doctor Rose said and left.
After a some time, Doctor Rose got to the ward where the boy was kept and pushed open the door. As she approached the bed, she didn't see any signs of him and her heart almost skipped. Luckily, she saw him standing by the window and looking outside.
"So you are here," she said and walked over to his side. "Beautiful right?" She asked him as she also joined him to gaze at the scenery. The building was placed in the middle of nowhere and was surrounded by tall canopies of trees. The trees made sunset and sunrise impossible to be seen, it was literally night for them at the hospital there.
The constant chirping of birds could be heard by everyone in the hospital and one could see a large body of water some miles away from the hospital — it was a beautiful view.
Not receiving any response from the boy, Doctor Rose glanced at him. He looked very pale.
"You know, you are supposed to be in bed," she said to him. "It is not time for you to be walking around or you might end up opening your internal injuries."
The boy didn't respond, not that he didn't want to but that he just couldn't say anything.
'I feel pain all over my body, I am fine but not fine' He muttered inwardly. 'Gabby did this to me but why didn't he kill me? What is his purpose for keeping me barely alive and calling for help at the same time? He could have just killed me. I don't get it, how did he end up a Lyrix? Was he forced? Was it his choice? He killed my father! Why my father of all people? He could have just gone and killed someone else, why must it be my old man? This feeling...'
Doctor Rose glanced at him and saw that his body was shaking, he was trembling in anger.
"I suggest you calm down so your body can heal," she told him but her words fell on deaf ears.
'I Stanley was betrayed my only friend. He killed my old man, made me like this... Isn't this more painful than being stabbed? Gabriel, I don't care about the relationship we have had. I will hunt you down, and I will kill you. Not just you, but the others... I will kill every Lyrix out there.'
