Chapter Four

Doctor Rose was sitting in her office, her eyes glued to the files on her table. Suddenly, there came a knock on her door. She looked up, glancing at the door for some seconds before turning back to what she was doing.

"Come in," she said and then the door was opened. She peeked, us ng the corner of her eyes, seeing that it was one of her nurses, she dropped the files and faced her.

"What is it?" She asked the junior nurse.

"Doctor, the OLT are here," the junior nurse replied.

"Take them to the training ground, I'll be there in a few minutes," Doctor Rose replied and the junior nurse nodded and left the office. After the junior nurse was dismissed, Doctor Rose continued with what she was doing.

She quickly finished going through the files and then stood up and left her office.

She headed straight to the training ground and upon arrival, she met the overall head of investigation squad in OLT.

He was a tall man with bulky feature, his red hair cascaded his shoulders like a waterfall and his bright blue eyes shone brightly. His beauty was enough to make any woman fall.

"Doctor Rose," he called her. His voice sounding neither masculine not feminine, his tone gentle.

Doctor Rose turned and the moment her eyes fell on him, she was lost. She hadn't seen any man so handsome and pretty at the same time like the man standing before her. She was not the kind to stare and get carried away by any man's appearance but this man's own was something she could not get satisfied with.

"Doctor Rose," the man called again and this time, Doctor Rose came back to her senses.

She adjusted her glasses, cleared her throat, and then wore back her usual aloof character.

"Who are you?" She asked him. Though she already knew he was, she wanted to hear it from him.

"I am Martin, Martin Luther," he replied. "The leader of OLT's investigation squad."

"Okay," Doctor Rose said. "I assume you are here for them," she added and he nodded his head in reply.

"The increase in the death of humans are increasing everyday. We need to start the operation as fast as possible."

"They are in there," Doctor Rose said and pushed open the glass door that led to the training ground.

As they walked in, young men and women were busy practicing hand to hand combat, sword skill, while some were using weapons like saw, large blades, and many more. Every of their actions were precise and they each exerted strength that normal humans would not ever dream of possessing.

"How is it?" Doctor Rose, happy, asked the man. She was so happy that her experiment worked because if she had failed, not only will those in power make fun of her, she would undoubtedly loose her job. They may look nice outside but their hearts were as dark as a devil's own.

"Brilliant," Martin said. "With them, our chances of defeating the Lyrix will be increased. Thank you so much."

Doctor Rose blushed and looked elsewhere to avoid his gaze. "When do you plan to take them?" She asked.

"Today, so that by tomorrow, we will arrive in town and begin the operation," Martin replied.

"Very well then. I'll be in my office," Doctor Rose said and turned to leave but Martin called her back.

"I'm sorry to say this but aren't you too young to live an isolated life?" He asked her. His question surprised her that she didn't know what to answer him immediately. Hence, he continued. "I mean, you live in a place isolated and in the middle of nowhere. Are you not scared of not being able to wake up and then see no one to even lay you to rest?"

His words struck her in the heart. This man that she thought was unlike the others was actually another version of the kind of men she hated.

"It seems I am destined to live and die alone," she muttered. She thought she had finally found someone.

"What did you say?" Martin asked her.

"No, it's nothing," she said and walked away. "Martin, you are a pure definition of beauty without brain."

Martin watched her leave angrily and wondered what he had done to make her upset.

"I only asked a question though," he shrugged his shoulders and then left as well.

Later in the day, Martin had gathered all the new members of OLT and assembled them in the open field of the hospital. Soon, helicopters began to descend, there were about three of them.

"Where is Doctor Rose?" Martin who had been hoping to see Doctor Rose once more before he leaves asks nurse Abi as she was the one who was sent to send them off.

"She is currently busy with a patient and is unable to come out," nurse Abi replied. She didn't know what had transpired between her boss and the big boss of OLT'S investigation squad but she knew how to do her job well; and her job was to see that Martin and his group leaves the hospital immediately.

"Oh, I see then," Martin said. A small frown settled on his face but soon, he smiled again. "Very well then, we'll be on our way—" Just before he could finish his statement, a young boy approached him.

"It's you," nurse Abi said. "What are you doing out there?" She asked him.

The boy was still dressed in the hospital's uniform and a bandage wrapped around his wrist. He was barefooted and as he walked, his steps were unsteady.

He ignored nurse Abi and walked over to Martin.

"C-can—" he couldn't speak so he made some hand gestures to him.

"You mean you want to come with us?" Martin asked and the boy nodded his head. Martin looked at him, the boy looked like he could die at anytime but he respected his decision still.

"No, you can't leave!" Nurse Abi said firmly. "Doctor will be upset, besides, you aren't healed yet." Nurse Abi could not allow the boy to leave but was there something she could actually do?

"What's your name, kid?" Martin asked.

The boy slowly bent down and began to write something on the ground, after he was done, he stood up again.

Martin tilted his head and read what the boy wrote. 'My name is Stanley and I want to join your organization. Please let me go with you guys, staying here is useless to me'.

After reading, Martin glanced at Stanley and nodded silently.

"But—" Nurse Abi said but the moment he met Stanley's gaze, she swallowed her words. They were pleading, pleading her to just give up. At the end, she gave up and let them leave.
