Capítulo 69: Silent Night

Naga Abir saved me from a Lamia attack.

We split into two groups and each went to the cabin. There was a large bed and a small cabinet next to it with an unlit candle on top.

It's a bit small for four people to sleep in, but we somehow managed to accommodate everyone.

I lay down between Sharin and Piyo. As soon as Piyo and Pauline lay down, they started snoring softly.

"Thank you for your help today. Next time, I'll let you know when I go out, so don't forget to let me know when you need to too."

I spoke softly to Sharin next to me. She just replied in a low voice.

"And I'll wash this scarf and then give it back to you. Besides, you quickly realized I was gone, right?"

After a brief pause, she replied.

"Because I saw you get up from your seat. I thought you took too long to relieve yourself; men are quick at that."

"I guess Sharin noticed after all."

When I said that, she turned her body and shrank a little.

"Even someone who isn't me would understand that."

And Sharin then said nothing more. So the night passed quickly.

...

The next morning, after washing my face, I went to thank Abir and he offered us breakfast. There were several other people who appeared to be his family gathered there, all eating something similar to porridge under a tent.

The bowl contains porridge-like grains. Looking back now, having white rice as your only staple food seems like a luxury.

"Hey kid, did you sleep well? Sorry for only having one bed. Anyway, eat this for now."

Saying this, Abir handed me a side dish that looked like tsukudani on a plate. Thinking it would be perfect for my tasteless porridge, I picked it up and found it wasn't a fish, but an insect.

I quickly pulled my hand away. If you look closely, it looks like a small grasshopper. Is this what they call grasshopper tsukudani?

Everyone next to me is eating with relish. I think they are as common here as frogs.

"It's the first time I've seen an insect..."

Apparently Filiana is just like me. She gave a wry smile when she saw me.

"What's wrong, Alicegawa? Are you not feeling well?"

I told Sharin, who was worried about me, that I was fine. I thought it would be rude not to eat it here, so I picked one up and put it in my mouth.

The taste is exactly what it looks like and has a crunchy texture like a shell. The taste is delicious, as long as you don't see it in person.

After breakfast, we told Abir our next destination and asked him to guide us there.
