Chapter 2

Beads of cold sweat formed on my forehead, one wave after another. I clenched my teeth, not letting myself make any sound.

I tasted the iron-like blood in my mouth, just before I was about to pass out.

Sakura finally lifted her high heel, sparing me.

Sakura chuckled softly, looking at me with great satisfaction.

"At least you know your place."

"Remember this! If you dare to make Zoran uncomfortable again, I won't let you off easy!"

With that, she left arm in arm with Zoran, looking like the perfect couple.

When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital.

The doctor looked at me with sympathy.

"Jaxon, your fingers... I'm afraid you won't be able to paint anymore, or lift heavy objects..."

My mind buzzed, the doctor's lips were still moving, but I couldn't hear any sound.

I looked at my heavily bandaged hand and suddenly burst into tears.

Is this the result you wanted, Sakura?

I sat numbly in the hospital room all night, only calling my brother in the early hours of the morning.

"Bro, you said before that your lab needed volunteers to test that new serum, right? I want to sign up."

After a long silence, my brother finally spoke.

"Che, didn't you say you had a girlfriend and were planning to get married? Why are you bringing this up now?"What's going on?"

"The new reagent is prepared for special personnel. It can dull a person's emotions. I don't think it's very suitable for you..."

I gave a bitter smile.

"Brother, no one is more suitable than me."

Seeing my determined attitude, my brother stopped trying to persuade me.

"Alright, I'll send you the reagent now. Expect to sign for it in five days."

The next morning, I checked out of the hospital.

After returning home, I packed up all of Sakura's things and threw them away.

Since she said she had forgotten me, whether she was pretending or not, I would grant her wish and not pester her anymore.

In the evening, I received a call from Sakura.

She said she was drunk and wanted me to take her home.

I also wanted to go and clear things up with her.

Who would have thought, as soon as I entered the private room, I was met with earth-shattering laughter.

"He really came! This simp is hilarious. Doesn't he care that Sakura humiliated him so badly yesterday?"

"Exactly! Sakura already said her boyfriend now is Zoran. Someone's still shamelessly trying to get in there. Talk about being a third wheel!"

My gaze fell on Sakura.

She was straddling Zoran's lap, the two of them kissing passionately.Sakura wore a look of smug confidence when she saw me.

"What did I tell you? One phone call and he'd come running."

Zoran stood beside Sakura, eyeing me with amusement.

"Jaxon must really love you..."

Sakura scoffed.

"Love? I made things crystal clear to him yesterday. A man with no self-respect is no better than a dog."

The color drained from my face as an icy chill ran from my toes to the top of my head.

I swallowed the bitterness rising in my throat.

"You're right. I won't bother you anymore."

Sakura faltered, seemingly caught off guard by my response, a flicker of unease crossing her eyes.

"Jaxon, you..."

Zoran cut in, interrupting Sakura's words.

"Don't say things you'll regret, Jaxon. Just last week you promised Sakura you wouldn't hassle her anymore..."
