Sic wasn't necessarily scared. He probably should have been, considering the fact he was in an unknown place about to fight an unknown enemy.
He took a deep breath. Being scared wouldn't help him in a fight. He needed to be ready.
Sic had gotten into fights on the streets before, but he mostly tried to avoid violence. It's not like fighting the people in the dumps would make his situation better.
After Chaos had disappeared, Sic was simply waiting until something happened. Either he would see the beast and it would attack him, or Chaos would manage to unlock his abilities.
Hopefully, it would be the abilities that happened first.
The seconds he waited felt like days. Every miniscule sound put him on the edge. He was observing the line of trees with upmost focus. His life depended on it.
The loud growling sound started getting closer and closer. He could feel the vibrations throughout his entire body. As much as he tried, Sic couldn't stay completely unfazed. The fear slowly seeped into his brain.
Just as he was about to collapse from fear, Chaos returned.
"You should have access to you abilities now. Feel anything different?"
Sic closed his eyes and focuses. He didn't know what it was even supposed to feel like or what he was trying to focus on, but he assumed he would notice it. He focused.... and focused...
And didnt feel anything different.
'uh-oh'
Chaos sighed
'What happened?'
Sic tried to feel and focus anything that felt different or that he could control, but he didn't even know what he was looking for in the first place.
'I can't feel anything different!'
As he thought that, the trees in front of him exploded forward, almost hitting Sic, and revealed the wild monster.
It was a huge wolf. Sic had never seen a wolf in person, but he had seen pictures of them before.
And he was pretty sure they weren't normally as tall as a grown man.
He could see the muscle straining as it walked towards him. It's eyes looked mad and deranged, it was drooling with its mouth open.
It's teeth looked horribly sharp.
Sic gulped
'How am I supposed to fight that thing?!
It was at least a whole foot taller than him, and still had the proportions of a normal wolf. Even if he had his abilities, would he be able to fight it?
'You got this!'
Sic shook his head at the remark Chaos made
'At least you believe in me'
Without any signs, the wolf lunged forward. Sic jumped out of the way, barely avoiding being crushed.
'Curse this!'
The Wolf swung his claw into the direction Sic was in.
He was still recovering, and he couldn't react in time.
The Wolf claws cut through Sic's chest.
He staggered back, blood dripping from his chest. He had expected to be in horrible pain, but after a couple seconds, he noticed it didn't hurt at all.
'weird'
He quickly regained his composure and focused on the wolf
It was ready to pounce on him again
'This is bad'
Sic had more time to react, but if this continued, he would die before discovering his abilities.
He had already thought about the fact that maybe his ability was simply not feeling pain.
And unless Sic decided to become a magician, that was a pretty damn useless ability. Feeling pain is one of the main concepts of a fight.
He rolled right again, he was now in front of the line of trees. The Wolf swung it's claws at him again, but he managed to dodge these attacks, albeit barely. Every swing was so forceful that it destroyed the trees behind him using wind pressure alone.
It wasn't looking good for Sic. He already felt like he was running out of energy, and the Wolf was only more ferocious than before.
It attacked him once again, but this time Sic wasn't going to be able to dodge it
"No!"
As he said that, he felt something different with his right leg. It felt...
stronger?
He managed to push off the floor and dodge the wolf's attack, just barely in time.
'Woah, what was that?'
He assumed that was his ability. He could make himself more powerful? Or at least, a single body part more powerful. That was a good ability, however...
That wasn't going to matter if he would die before he got to fully understand it!
Augmenting a single body part can be strong, but it wasn't going to change much while fighting the wolf.
Speaking of, the wolf continued to attack with no hesitation. The second Sic would dodge, the wolf would already be ready with another attack. He wasn't going to survive for very long.
'if only I had a weapon!'
He imagined how much easier it would be if he had something he could fight back with. He might actually have a chance!
As he had that thought, he felt something in his wrist. The hole that the blue liquid entered had opened.
'huh... I wonder..'
He invisioned a small pocket knife that his mom has given him. It was the only weapon he had ever used, and it served him well. Even though he eventually had to sell it to make sure he wouldn't starve.
As he thought about the knife, blue liquid shot from his wrist and took the form of the knife he had imagined.
Sic smiled "perfect"
He held it in his hands and waited for the wolf to attack again. When it did, instead of dodging the attack, he used his augmentation to let him jump over the massive claw. He landed on the wolf and shoved the knife into it's back.
The Wolf didn't react how Sic had hoped.
Instead of wreathing in pain, or showing any proof that it was in pain at all, it started thrashing around. Sic was having a hard time staying on the wolf.
The Wolf continued to thrash about until Sic was thrown off. The Wolf immediately tried to bring it's claw down on Sic's head. He moved out of the way, but not completely dodging the wolf's claw.
His leg got caught. He had heard the loud crunching sound, but didn't realize until he tried to stand up. He was completely missing his leg
Sic was screwed. He only had a small chance of winning with all his limbs, but missing a leg? He wasn't going to beat this monster. He was going do die here...
Unless?
He had one last idea. He turned around, and using one leg, jumped into the lake.
The Wolf was obviously very skilled on land. Just as most land animals, however, there was the chance it wouldn't be as dangerous in the water. Not that Sic was in any condition to swim either, but he didn't really have another option.
As he slowly sank into the lake, his vision started to go blurry, and then all he saw was black.
