Chapter 50: Bullying Us Because We Don't Know English?

Nothing happened that night. Early the next morning, the two of them were ready to try their luck at the Dongyuan Antique Market.

But before that, they had to renew their room for the day.

As soon as they arrived at the front desk, however, something went wrong. Since Li Yi had to pack up, he asked Wei Sanpao to renew the room first and promised to join him later.

But when Li Yi came over, he found that Wei Sanpao was in a quarrel with the front desk clerk.

Li Yi, concerned that something might be going wrong, walked over and asked, "Old Third, what happened?"

"Brother Yi, they are bullying me! When I asked if I could renew the room, they said yes, but when two foreigners came in, they suddenly said there were no rooms for us. Isn't this bullying?" Wei Sanpao complained.

Li Yi frowned and turned to the hotel staff. "Is what my brother said true?"

A staff member wearing glasses, noticing Li Yi's displeased expression, immediately smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, I must have made a mistake earlier. There are indeed no twin rooms left... But we do have single rooms available. Would that work for you?"

But just then, a voice with a distinct British accent sounded from behind Li Yi, "Excuse me, do you have any double rooms?" (in English)

The receptionist's face changed immediately upon hearing the foreign accent.

Foreigners were a big deal, and he quickly responded with less-than-perfect English, "Yes, sir, please wait a moment!"

Li Yi immediately understood. He had encountered a "foreign dog."

Although Wei Sanpao didn't understand English, she wasn't foolish. She noticed that the receptionist had claimed there were no rooms earlier, but once the foreigners arrived and exchanged a few words, the attitude had completely changed!

Clearly, the receptionist's sudden shift in demeanor had something to do with the foreigners!

Li Yi stepped forward, glaring at the receptionist, "What do you mean? Two foreigners arrive, and suddenly the rooms I had reserved for us are gone?"

The receptionist's face darkened as he replied coldly, "Young man, please calm down. There really are no rooms left, and I can't do anything about it!"

But the man with glasses didn't stop there and added, "Be careful with your words. If you keep causing trouble, I'll have to call security!"

When Li Yi heard that, a sly smile appeared on his face. He reached out to stop Wei Sanpao, who was about to argue, and said to the receptionist, "Call security? Are you sure?"

"Why, are you planning to make trouble?" the receptionist sneered.

Li Yi shook his head, saying, "We're not here to cause trouble, but we're not afraid of it. You're bullying my brother because he doesn't understand foreign languages, right?"

The receptionist looked confused, but Li Yi's next words left him even more baffled. "He may not understand, but I do!"

The man behind the desk sneered, assuming Li Yi was just another naïve country bumpkin.

"Can you understand foreign languages?" he thought to himself, disbelieving.

Just then, the foreigners spoke again, asking about the availability of rooms.

Li Yi, turning to the foreigners with a smile, spoke in perfect English before the receptionist could respond, "Gentlemen, don't worry, we have some disagreements with this gentleman..." (in English)

"Originally, he had rented the room to us, but now he suddenly changed his mind because of your arrival! My friend here is quite upset about his irresponsible behavior, and we hope you understand..." (in English)

The foreigner, a man with black hair and blue eyes, looked taken aback. He didn't care about the rooms anymore but stepped forward excitedly.

"Oh, my friend! Your accent has a hint of Birmingham! Have you lived in Birmingham for a while?" (in English)

Li Yi raised his eyebrows. This man could tell he had a Birmingham accent? It seemed like he was from England as well.

This could be an opportunity. Li Yi smiled and said, "Yes, I did stay in Birmingham for a while. The whiskey from the Wilman Old Brewery is the best single malt I've ever tasted!" (in English)

The foreigner's eyes lit up with excitement.

"My God! I think so too! Perhaps we were neighbors for a while! This is unbelievable!" (in English)

Then, he introduced himself. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Henry, and this is my brother, Johnson!" (in English)

"May I know your name, friend?" (in English)

Li Yi smiled warmly. "My English name is William, but here in Longguo, you can just call me Li!" (in English)

At this moment, Wei Sanpao stood there, shocked. She had no idea that Li Yi could speak such fluent foreign languages! Moreover, the two foreigners were chatting with him as if they were old friends!

The receptionist was equally stunned, but for a different reason. Li Yi's fluent English had caught him off guard. He now realized he had crossed a line, and that this young man was not just another local tourist.

The receptionist's face had gone pale. He had no idea who this guy was, but he could tell that Li Yi had connections, and that this could end very badly for him.

Meanwhile, the conversation between Li Yi and the foreigners continued.

"Henry, I'm curious! What brings you here? Are you here for business?" (in English)

Henry sighed and responded, "Yes, we're here to do business, but we'll be heading back to Birmingham next month!" (in English)

He explained further, "Next month is my grandfather's birthday, and I haven't found a proper gift yet. I heard there are many antiques here, so I wanted to buy one to take back!"

"But you know, Li, I don't know much about antiques. If I buy a fake, I'll be in trouble!" (in English)

Li Yi's lips curled into a smile. Want to buy antiques? Afraid of buying fakes? This was too easy.

With a smile, Li Yi responded, "What a coincidence. I happen to know a thing or two about antiques. Perhaps I could offer some advice!"

Henry's eyes brightened instantly. "Oh my God! That's great! Li, you must help me out, and I'll reward you!"

Li Yi chuckled, "It's no trouble. If I ever visit Birmingham, you can treat me to a beer!" (in English)

Henry nodded eagerly. "No problem!"
