Chapter 51: Separate Actions
Upon hearing Henry's words, Li Yi breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed that this foreigner was still easy to talk to. Of course, the assumption was that Henry truly believed Li Yi had returned from Birmingham, and he also subconsciously thought that Li Yi was of Chinese descent from England and a noble.
Li Yi had deliberately been cautious in his speech earlier. After all, not everyone could enter the Wellman's Old Winery he had mentioned!
Li Yi mentioned where he had been, which naturally made Henry and the others believe his identity was extraordinary.
Taking advantage of this, Li Yi also used the opportunity to test the two of them. Since they knew the place and spoke clearly and precisely, their identities were obviously not ordinary.
Otherwise, even if they were British, they wouldn't be qualified to enter such an esteemed place.
In fact, Henry thought the same.
Wellman's Old Distillery's single malt whiskey had always been their treasure, so Henry immediately knew that Li Yi wasn't lying.
To some extent, Li Yi hadn't exactly lied.
He had indeed been to Birmingham and tasted whiskey there, but the timeline was slightly different.
If nothing else, Li Yi would soon be the man to receive a banquet from the most powerful man in the British Empire twenty years from now.
"My friends," Henry spoke warmly, "To express my gratitude, I've decided to cover all your expenses while you're staying here!"
Then, to Li Yi's surprise, Henry turned to the shocked man with glasses at the front desk and said seriously:
"Give them the double room, refund all their money, and open two more single rooms for me. I'll pay for it!"
Upon hearing this, the man with glasses dared not show any disrespect to Li Yi!
He was now sure that Li Yi was not a country bumpkin. In fact, he might even be a noble from a distinguished family.
Realizing this and reflecting on his earlier attitude, the man with glasses just wanted to slap himself for his prior misjudgment!
"Okay, sir, I'll refund them right now!"
Wei Sanpao's expression at that moment was quite amusing.
From the beginning, when Li Yi had been speaking with the foreigners, Wei Sanpao had sensed something was off.
Li Yi was so calm that for a moment, Wei Sanpao thought he really had foreign friends!
"I said… Brother Yi, are these two foreigners your friends?"
"Why did the front desk refund our money?"
Li Yi and Henry had been speaking in English, so Wei Sanpao hadn't understood a word.
Li Yi smiled and patted Wei Sanpao on the shoulder. "We just met, but my English accent comes from their hometown. I was so excited that I paid for our rent together!"
Upon hearing this explanation, Wei Sanpao suddenly understood!
Then, he gave Li Yi a thumbs up!
"Brother Yi! You are amazing! Brother, I admire you!"
Li Yi laughed at his praise, but when Wei Sanpao continued, his face grew a little wry.
After a pause, Wei Sanpao asked again, "Brother Yi, shall we go to Dongyuan Market?"
Li Yi frowned slightly.
The jade must be found as soon as possible. There was no time to waste. But bringing these two foreigners along wouldn't work!
The reason was simple: as long as the jade was in Li Yi's hands, trading it with foreigners meant all the money could go into his own pocket.
But if someone else held the jade, the most he could get was a share of the reward.
Though not a complete loss, it was certainly much less profitable than if he acted alone!
However, he couldn't afford to waste time. How could he find the jade?
An idea suddenly lit up in Li Yi's mind!
He couldn't go looking for it himself, but didn't he still have Wei Sanpao by his side?
Li Yi quickly turned to Wei Sanpao, explaining the details of the jade's appearance and what to look for.
Although Wei Sanpao was a little naive, he had a good mind and was quick to act.
After hearing Li Yi's explanation, he immediately agreed without hesitation.
Li Yi reminded him to not act rashly once he found the jade. He should come back and tell him first.
Once they had a plan, they would move forward.
Wei Sanpao nodded repeatedly, indicating his understanding.
In his mind, Li Yi always had a plan, and he just needed to do the physical work.
It was nice working with someone as intelligent as Li Yi.
After they went over the details again, Wei Sanpao hurried off to the antique market.
Time was tight, and the tasks were heavy. There was no time to waste.
As for Li Yi, he had just promised Henry that he would accompany him.
It was important to connect and build relationships—how else could he gain trust?
Since Henry and Jason needed time to place their luggage, Li Yi returned to his room after telling them his room number. Once they were ready, they could come find him, and then they would head to the antique market together.
Half an hour later, there was a gentle knock on the door of Li Yi's room.
"Li! Are you here?"
Upon hearing this, Li Yi immediately grimaced. These foreigners were so impatient!
Li Yi stood up from his chair and strode to the door, opening it.
It was Henry standing outside.
"Li, I'm very sorry to disturb you now, but I don't know if you have any recommendations for antiques?"
Henry continued: "I just asked the owner of this hotel about the Dongyuan Antique Market. He told me that there are many good things there, but also some fakes… So, I'm a bit worried..."
Li Yi understood Henry's concern immediately.
He was worried about buying counterfeit goods, and the last thing Henry wanted was to give a fake to an old man—how embarrassing!
Li Yi immediately put on a serious expression and smiled. "Don't worry, Henry. You don't have to stress about that. Just leave it to me!"
"There are indeed many fakes in the Dongyuan Antique Market, but based on my experience, you won't face any issues."
With that, Li Yi took out the ring he had bought earlier from the old man at the market.
"Henry, can you estimate how much this is worth?"
Henry took the ring and carefully examined it.
"I estimate this ring would cost at least a hundred pounds, maybe more!"
Li Yi smiled and shook his head. He then took the ring from Henry and said, "Henry, look, you were fooled by such a simple ring! This is just a counterfeit, and it's not worth much at all!"
"Fake? How much is it really worth?" Henry asked immediately.
"One pound!" Li Yi replied with a smile.
Henry stared at him, stunned. "One pound? My God!"
Before Li Yi could respond, Henry exclaimed, "Li, how do you tell the difference between real and fake? My friend, you must teach me!"
Li Yi grinned. "We can't learn anything just by talking. How about this? Let's head out now and go to the antique market!"
"I'll help you tell the difference between fake and authentic!"
Henry's face lit up with joy. "Great, let's go!"
And so, the three of them set off for the Dongyuan Antique Market together.
