Chapter 69: Brother, Is There Anything Else You Don't Know?
By the time Li Yi returned home, it was already past five in the evening.
The afternoon conversation had benefited him greatly—not only did he befriend a powerful figure like Liang Xingguo, but he also learned some surprising things during their meal.
He had discussed many people and events in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen area with Li Wenshan and Liang Xingguo, focusing particularly on his connection to Donghua Clothing Company.
Li Wenshan, being the director of the Public Security Bureau, had no impression of Chen Donghua since he wasn't involved in business matters. However, when Liang Xingguo heard the name, he immediately sat up straight and asked for more details.
It turned out that Liang Xingguo and Chen Donghua had been college classmates. After graduating, the two had lost touch. Now, hearing Li Yi mention his name, Liang Xingguo finally learned that Chen Donghua had ventured into business.
What does "going into business" mean?
For most people, it's a gamble. It means giving up a stable job in a state-owned enterprise or government agency—positions that offer security and good salaries—in favor of an uncertain future. It means abandoning the "iron rice bowl" and taking a leap into the unknown.
Only those with extraordinary courage would make such a choice.
Back when they were dormmates, Liang Xingguo had also considered entering the business world. However, in the end, he chose stability. Part of this was due to family pressure, but the main reason was his own personality—he sought security, while Chen Donghua thrived on risk.
Chen Donghua's background was also unique. He came from a reconstituted family, and his stepfather was a foreigner who had been highly supportive of him since childhood. This influence led him to embrace business opportunities without hesitation.
After learning that Li Yi's business partner was Chen Donghua, Liang Xingguo's attitude toward Li Yi improved even further.
With the support of these two influential figures, it seemed that ordinary gangsters in Jiangcheng would no longer dare to cause him trouble.

A Shift in Perspective
After dinner, Xu Qingnan went to wash the dishes while Li Yi entered Xu Qingyao's room.
At the time, she was working on an English mock test but appeared troubled. She was so focused that she didn't even notice Li Yi standing behind her.
Glancing at her test paper, Li Yi quickly understood the issue.
It was a standard reading comprehension section, featuring a passage followed by ten multiple-choice questions. To answer correctly, one needed to carefully read the passage and choose responses based on its content.
Although Li Yi had never taken the college entrance exam, his English skills were excellent. He could understand the passage easily and deduce the answers.
"You should choose A," he said suddenly.
Startled, Xu Qingyao turned to him but quickly became intrigued by his response.
"Choose A? Why? I thought C made more sense."
Li Yi bent down and patiently explained, "Look at the second paragraph. It mentions Vincent's whereabouts—he went to a restaurant, not a school."
"This multiple-choice question asks, 'Where did Vincent go?' The options are C: church, B: school, and A: restaurant. Whether you originally chose B or changed it to C, both are incorrect. The correct answer is A."
Xu Qingyao's eyes lit up. "Oh! That makes sense!"
She turned to him in admiration. "Brother! You actually know English? That's amazing!"
"It's just English. What's so difficult about it?" Li Yi replied nonchalantly.
His confidence was almost smug.
"What do you mean, 'what's so difficult?' There are so many words to memorize—it gives me a headache! By the way, when did you even learn English? I never knew!"
Li Yi chuckled. "English is simple. If you take the time to practice reading and writing, you can learn it quickly."
"Look at this question. You chose A, but you need to remember that foreigners don't care much about pronunciation in this context, so the correct answer should actually be B."
"And here's a grammar-related question. Based on the rules, you should choose B as well…"
In just a few minutes, Xu Qingyao was completely blown away by his knowledge.
When did her lazy, aimless brother-in-law become an English expert?
Even more shocking, his pronunciation was more natural than their schoolteachers'!
"Brother, since when did you know English? Can you teach me?"
Seeing her eager expression, Li Yi smiled and nodded.
His goal was finally achieved!
As long as Xu Qingyao was willing to learn, he was confident he could improve her grades significantly in the next 20 days.
"Qingyao, are there any other subjects you struggle with?"
Xu Qingyao hesitated before replying, "Geography… But don't tell me you know geography too?"
Li Yi grinned confidently.
"Geography is mostly about understanding climate patterns across continents and oceans, as well as the climate distribution within our country. Once you grasp these fundamentals, everything else falls into place!"
Xu Qingyao was dumbfounded.
What was going on? Why did Li Yi seem like a completely different person?
"Brother… Are you possessed or something?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't get it! You've changed so much! You used to be lazy and unmotivated, but now you're knowledgeable, talented, and can negotiate, make money, speak English, and even teach geography! Is there anything you don't know?"
"Yes."
"What?"
"Giving birth."
"Get lost! Saying that in front of your sister—do you want me to report you to our parents so they can break your legs?" Xu Qingyao snapped, her face turning red.
"You started it by talking about possession," Li Yi teased. "Tell me the truth—are your grades suffering because you spend all day reading novels?"
"No!"
"Alright, I won't tease you anymore. From now on, I'll help you study. As long as you follow my methods, I guarantee you'll get into college!" Li Yi declared confidently.
"Really?"
"Of course!"
"Okay! Let's start now!"
