Chapter 2

I immediately walked into the study.

He handed me a box.

"Your birthday present. I was too busy the past few days. I also had Meadow help pick this out. She said girls like this style."

I breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he hadn't forgotten my birthday after all.

I held the gift box and saw the necklace inside.

Happily, I hugged Ivo.

It seems I had overthought things.

I was on vacation, scrolling through videos at home.

"Hello everyone, it's Meadow here."

A food blogger was teaching everyone how to make desserts.

She was wearing a necklace identical to mine around her neck.

I smiled.

I opened the comments section, ready to leave a comment.

That's when I noticed everyone asking if it was a gift from her lifesaver.

"Yes, he bought it for me last week."

"He's not my boyfriend, but I really like him."

After years of working, I had developed a keen eye.

I clicked on the blogger's profile.

The pinned video was the girl recounting her story with her lifesaver.

The lifesaver was a firefighter.

Meadow lived alone.

One day she discovered a wasp nest by her window and immediately called 911 in fear.

Three handsome firefighters arrived.

Their captain climbed out the window and removed the wasp nest.

I finished watching Meadow's video. All the details matched up.

IP, captain, necklace, name.

Now there's only one last step, I search for the girl's photos across the internet.

Finally, in her friend's video.

I found her.

My face turned pale, my mind went blank.

This girl was the person next to Ivo at the jewelry store.

As I exited the app.

"Meadow" updated a video.

"Bringing food to my lifesaver vlog"

As soon as the video was posted.

Everyone in the comments section congratulated Meadow.

"We're not together yet, guys, don't be like that."

"I'm just sincerely thanking Ivo."

In the video, the fire station, office, couch, dining table all corresponded.

Even the cactus that appeared in the video.

Was the gift we gave Ivo for our second anniversary.

"You're busy with work, you probably won't remember to water plants, so I'm giving you a cactus, consider it as me keeping you company at work."

This cactus has been with Ivo from intern to full-time employee to becoming the station chief.

It also changed from emerald green to withered yellow.

"Meadow, why is there such an ugly cactus on Ivo's desk? Why don't you throw it away and get him a new plant?""Sweetheart, you're so clever. How did you know I sent Ivo my favorite lilies?"

I hastily opened WeChat.

I initiated a video call with Ivo.

"Hello? What's up?"

Ivo's voice was magnetic but filled with indifference.

In the past,

He would always say tenderly, "Aria, did you miss me?"

When exactly did it change? Six months ago? A year ago?

I couldn't remember anymore.

Seeing me silently staring at him,

Ivo seemed to revert to how he was when he loved me.

"Aria? What's wrong? Did you miss me?"

I snapped back to reality.

"Aren't you busy today?"

I carefully examined Ivo's desk.

The cactus I sent wasn't visible in the camera, but neither were the lilies.

"No field work today, I'm in the office."

Ivo spoke to me while looking at his computer.

Thud.

The phone dropped,

And I saw it.

A pot of lilies.
