Chapter 4

The next day, I went straight to work without going home.

When I first graduated, Clayton had just started his business and was penniless.

I worked during the day and then did a part-time job at a convenience store after hours, working sixteen to seventeen hours a day just to earn enough to support both of us.

Rent, utilities, food, clothing, shelter, transportation - I paid for it all.

Sometimes when he couldn't secure investments, I would give him my savings to help him catch a break.

A year later, his company stabilized, and we got married.

He said that I had taken care of him before, and now it was his turn to take care of me.

He wanted to live a stable life with me, have a child, and form a proper family.

At that time, my mind was filled with love, so I agreed right away.

I quit my job and tried to get pregnant, but nothing happened.

Bored at home, I used the dividends I received from investing in Clayton's company to open a coffee shop.

As soon as I arrived at the shop, I saw Melody sitting at a table near the entrance.

"Sis, I'm here to apologize. I ruined your wedding anniversary. If you're angry, you can hit me or scold me, but please don't blame Clayton. He was just feeling sorry for me.""

Vivienne, when will you stop being so jealous? I'm the one who made the mistake. Melody came to apologize sincerely. Why are you taking your anger out on her!"

"Fine! I won't take my anger out on her!"

I hung up the phone in a fury and headed straight for Clayton's company.I stormed into his office in front of all his employees and slapped him across the face.

"Vivienne, have you lost your mind?" Clayton yelled, slamming his fist on the desk, furious that I had humiliated him.

"You told me not to take my anger out on Melody, so I'm taking it out on you instead!"

With that, I turned to leave, but Clayton grabbed my arm.

"Vivienne, what's that red mark on the back of your neck?"
