Chapter 6

This is the first time I've cursed someone, and the first time I've cursed at Jaxon.

His expression visibly wilted, like a puppy who had done something wrong, his eyes full of innocence.

I sighed, completely at a loss with him. This was my own doing, and I naturally had to bear the consequences of losing control.

"I have my own thoughts about the divorce. Stop meddling!"

Jaxon pulled me into his arms, resting his head on my shoulder, his tone resentful and aggrieved.

"I just want you to be with me sooner, to give me a proper status in your life."

"If you're worried this might cause you to lose out in the asset division, I have the best legal team here."

"Plus, I'm very wealthy too, much more than Clayton. If you're afraid I might abandon you, we can sign a prenup. No matter the reason for divorce, I'll leave with nothing!"

"If we're comparing specs, I'm better looking than him, have a better body, speak more eloquently, I'm smarter, more loyal to you, and..."

"And I'm better in bed!"

The last line was whispered in my ear, his warm breath tickling my earlobe.

He's still trying to seduce me at a time like this.

But at the same time, something felt off.

"Why? Why do you want to sacrifice so much for me?""Why are you burning through money like it's nothing?"

"You're just Clayton's good friend. From high school until now, our relationship has only been at the level of acquaintances, not particularly close."

"What kind of connection do we have that makes you treat me so well?"

"It can't be that you have some special fetish for married women, can it?"

Jaxon mumbled something indistinct into the crook of my neck.

"Who says there isn't?"
