The heavy thud made the chief flinch; he snapped back and saw the body of one of the surviving police officers lying there, its head severed from its body.
"Arghhh!"
While staring at the dead body in shock, he heard a scream that compelled him to look in that direction. This time, his legs gave way when he noticed a young man latched onto one of his officer's neck.
Blood dripped from the wound he bit.
"D-demon." The chief recoiled in despair, but the man ignored him. When the police officer he was feeding on ran out of blood, he vanished once more, dumping the body on the ground.
Fat Chief reached for his gun with trembling hands, but Alvin moved too quickly for him to notice his presence.
The chief even forgot to fire when Alvin came to a stop in front of another of his targets.
"Eeek!" he cried out, jumping backward when he noticed a pair of crimson eyes staring deep into his soul; the intensity of that look nearly knocked him out.
In fear, he threw away his gun and crawled backward, terrified that Alvin would attack him next. As he moved, his pot belly shook from left to right, and his buttons came undone.
But he couldn't run for long because a thick tree blocked his path of retreat. The chief panicked and glanced away from Alvin, stumbling in a different direction.
Despite his best efforts, a pair of bloody shoes appeared in front of him, blocking his path.
"P… please spare me!" Words spilled out of him, along with saliva and tears of despair. Alvin simply looked down at him with emotionless eyes, blood still dripping from the corner of his mouth, and a beating heart in his hand.
Bu-Dump!
He raised his hand, holding the heart above his head. Crushing it, he let the blood fall into his mouth. The police chief couldn't move his body and broke down.
Vanessa turned towards her mistress far away. "Are you sure you don't want to stop him?" She paused and looked at Alvin, who had just massacred the humans in the area, leaving only one alive. "He has already lost his reasoning; the anger has clouded his mind."
"He is venting on Vanessa," Elara said softly. "If letting his emotions out on these worthless humans helps him, why not let him be?"
"Besides, it's not like they are innocent people who weren't interested in seeing the fall of this place and the family it belonged to."
Vanessa pursed her lips and lowered her head as she heard the heavy words she had spoken in a sweet tone.
Pluch!
Alvin threw the empty heart to the side and raised his feet in the air, directing them at the chief's head. The man flailed on the ground, pleading for mercy, but Alvin had no intention of stopping and lowered his foot.
However, just as Alvin was about to tread on the obese chief's skull, he paused. His eyes shook as they got clearer.
"W-wu, please spare me." Alvin gazed silently at the man beseeching for his life beneath his feet.
Realizing he wasn't dead, the chief breathed a sigh of relief and cheered in his heart. But even then, fear lingered in his heart.
Alvin finally expressed emotion on his cold, blank face. With a disgusted expression, he raised his head and looked around, slowly taking in the scenes around him before lowering his head again.
"Someone like you does not even deserve to be my food," Alvin spoke with a completely different demeanor than he had previously. His voice lacked the life and energy it once possessed.
He looked like a dead man walking.
"Now be a good pig and tell me, who ordered you to come this late?" Leaning down, he whispered slowly while looking deep into the police chief's eyes. His words sounded enchanting, and his eyes glowed red.
Elara's eyes widened, and she gasped in her heart, 'He used enchanting alone on his first try? Wait! From his expression, I feel like he does not even know himself that he is using it.'
The fat man's eyes lost their spark; he opened his drooling mouth and simply replied, "It was the head chief." The man revealed the truth without understanding what he was saying: "He held off both departments for half an hour by creating a fake meeting, and I followed his wishes to please him."
Alvin simply hummed and showed no emotion, "Someone like you deserves to be blown up, along with all those who were involved, including your head chief."
"Yes, someone like us… deserves… to be blown up…" The man repeated slowly in a matter-of-fact tone before standing up in a daze. Under Alvin's slightly puzzled gaze, the chief walked slowly toward his car, which was now damaged and missing a door.
Despite his confusion, Alvin was not about to let his opponent go so easily; just as he was about to make a move, someone beat him to it.
Bang!
A loud gunshot echoed throughout the area, and the police chief collapsed to the ground, blood oozing from a bullet wound in his head and life seeping from his eyes.
The area was eerily silent. Alvin tensed as he heard the sudden loud sound. The next thing he felt was his body hair standing on their end as he heard something whirling towards him at a rapid pace.
He wanted to jump away, but his body didn't respond quickly enough.
Fortunately, someone came to his rescue on time.
Ting!
Alvin relaxed slightly as he gazed at the familiar umbrella unfold, blocking his view, and being held by an even more familiar woman. Elara stood in front of him, watching his every move from the side.
Alvin lowered his head to see a shiny silver nail lying on the ground, its sharp head flattened from the collision with the magical umbrella Elara held.
"Do not let the power get to your head. You do not even have control over your new body and emotions." Elara warned him, her gaze fixed on the distant shadows of the dark forest.
"My, my, Who would have thought you would be able to block that...?" A lazy but surprised voice echoed in the darkness. He was unable to determine the location of the mysterious person based on the distance of the voice.
Alvin's ears twitched as he heard the sound of crushed leaves in the distance; despite how far away it sounded, neither he nor Elara moved.
"You are more powerful than any vampire I have ever encountered." This time, the voice came from directly in front of them, at the edge of the shadows.
Alvin tensed as he watched the man slowly emerge from the shadows and face their group.
