Elaris' words still echoed in my mind long after she had finished speaking. The flickering candlelight cast shadows across the room, but none of them felt as dark as the truth she had just revealed.
"You were never meant to live an ordinary life, Mira. The blood in your veins carries the will of the Abyss itself."
Silence followed her revelation.
Lorenzo stood rigid beside me, his jaw clenched, eyes locked on Elaris as if demanding more. Vincenzo leaned back against the wall, arms crossed, his usual smirk absent. Caelyn said nothing, but his expression was grim, as though he had known all along and had hoped I would never have to hear it.
But I had.
And now I could never unhear it.
I forced myself to speak. "So my mother wasn't just protecting me from Callidus. She was protecting me from myself."
