Chapter 2

After communicating all the details, I sent over the video I had recorded at the hospital.

I told them to release it together after my death.

Then I went out to print a divorce agreement, waiting for Dashiell to come home.

I waited until noon the next day, but Dashiell still hadn't returned.

Just as I was about to give him a call, I saw his figure on TV.

"Dashiell, CEO of Shaw Group, crawls up 9,999 steps on his knees, all to obtain the temple's jade tablet to keep his beloved safe."

In the video, Dashiell's knees were already bloodied and raw.

But he still ignored everyone's attempts to stop him, kowtowing with each step, completing all the stairs with devotion and determination.

He spoke to the interviewing reporter with deep emotion: "As long as the one I love can be safe and worry-free, I'm willing to give everything I have."

As soon as the interview aired, many people sent me messages.

"Oh my God, he's willing to do this for you when you've just gotten pregnant. When the baby is born, he's going to spoil you to the moon and back. I also heard that Mr. Shaw invested several million dollars in the hospital, demanding they ensure your safe delivery. He's just so thoughtful.""I'm so envious of you, Felicity. You have a husband who loves you so much. You truly are the luckiest woman in the world."

Looking at this string of messages, I felt nothing but irony.

In the past, I would have thought myself the luckiest woman in the world too.

But now, I understand completely.

This love belongs to Elena.

I'm just a pitiful prop in their grand love story.

I cleared my message list and headed to the hospital with divorce papers in hand.

Dashiell got overly excited the moment he saw me.

Ignoring the injury on his leg, he rushed towards me.

"Felicity, why are you here? I'm sorry, I made you worry..."

"Where's the jade pendant?"

Dashiell's eyes darted away for a second. "I accidentally lost the jade pendant. I've already sent people to look for it. If we can't find it, I'll get you an even better gift later."

How could it not be found?

When I passed by the VIP ward earlier, I saw that jade pendant hanging around Elena's neck.

I didn't call him out on it. Instead, I handed him the last page of the divorce agreement.

"No need to wait. I've found a house I like. Buy it for me."

"Of course!Dashiell signed his name without a second thought.

I furrowed my brow. "Aren't you going to read it carefully? What if... what if it's really expensive?"

"As long as you like it, I don't care how much it costs."

His gaze was bright and sincere, without a trace of pretense.

I couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

So this is what it means to love someone, to go to such lengths for them.

It's just a pity that the person being loved isn't me.

I put the divorce agreement in my bag, preparing to go home.

Dashiell, however, worried about my safety on the way home since I was pregnant, and insisted on driving me.

As we were about to reach the door, his assistant whispered something in Dashiell's ear.

His face immediately changed, and he pulled me in the opposite direction.
