Seraphina called me first thing the next morning.
I instinctively rejected the call, but she persisted, trying several more times.
When I finally came to my senses, I remembered that today was supposed to be the day Seraphina and I were going to take our wedding photos.
Unfortunately, I was destined to stand her up today.
Her voice on the other end of the line was incredibly cheerful, as if she had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.
"Let's meet at the photography studio at nine o'clock sharp. I've already brought your clothes, so you can just come straight over."
I glanced at the time - it was eight in the morning.
My flight was at ten.
I gave a noncommittal response and turned off my phone.
After preparing everything, I headed straight to the airport.
My subordinates had been waiting there for quite some time, and they all greeted me warmly when they saw me.
One of my longest-serving subordinates was beaming, as if something wonderful had happened.
