Chapter 9: Fool Me Twice

Emily

Less than a week later, I’m on Bourbon Street again. Not only did I book the same hotel Raya did, I even managed to get the same room. It’s crazy expensive even at off season prices, but I just put it on the card. Money is a problem for future, Emily. Right now, all that matters is figuring out what happened to my sister.

The room is so familiar it even smells the same. If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear there are still traces of the perfume Raya wore that night lingering in the air. I half expect to see her makeup scattered all across the bathroom counter, just like she left it when we went out.

That rattles the hell out of me, and I open the minibar to grab one of the tiny whiskey bottles to settle my nerves. I’m sure this thimble full of booze is crazy expensive, but so what? Tomorrow’s problems.
