Chapter 35: Bird's Eye View

Emily

I can’t keep losing days like this. My head won’t stop spinning, and I keep pinching myself. Not to see if I’m awake, to make sure I’m alive. And sane.

Part of me is afraid one morning I’ll wake up in that psych ward tied up in a straight jacket. Everything will have been one big hallucination. Just thinking it drops into my stomach like a boulder, but in some ways it’s the most logical conclusion.

No vampires, no demons. No blood bond.

Just a girl who suffered a psychotic break after her sister was kidnapped. That’s a whole lot more realistic than an unknowing witch from an obscure and potent bloodline. Couple that with the notion that I’ve been chosen by fate to unite two rival factions and bring the whole supernatural world into harmony? That’s a lot of weight for my petite shoulders.
