Chapter 98: Lit from Within

Raya is asleep as soon as her head touches the pillow. I can’t help finding it morbidly funny that she’s literally been dead for a week, and the first thing she does is go back to sleep. At the same time, I can’t fathom the ordeal she’s been through. Wandering in the dark, all memories wiped out until my voice came through and led her back.

Boundless warmth floods my chest looking at her. In her coffin she was so chalky and still, but now? The color in her cheeks, the way the blankets rise and fall with her breathing… I have to close my eyes because it hurts to look at something so beautiful.

I thought she was lost forever. Now here she is, alive and healthy again.

Because of me.

Staring at my hands, I turn them over a few times, curling and uncurling my fingers. They’re so small. So delicate. How is it possible power like that could come through hands like mine?
